my pucker factor would go up exponentially if any of those models going south of Cuba into the Caribbean were to materialize
good thing is those are very few

Anybody got a link to that Caribbean weatherman with the parrot? I'd like to get his take.

While people may focus on the 3 members west of Florida, it should also be noted there are even more members that take it fishing.

Al Gore saw this and got a global warming hard on until someone told him it was one hurricane with different models.

It's a madhouse in Tampa already. Some coworkers have been out for hours looking for bottled water and can't find any.

I'm still sticking with my prediction that it won't, especially if it stays that far south in Cuba. It will turn more gradually and hit the eastern half of the panhandle. I don't think the shortwave will be strong enough to turn a storm that strong that fast
Unfortunately I don't see how this doesn't come true. The thing is not turning on a dime. I'm in mobile and I'm getting ready for this bitch. frick the models they keep changing. The shift westward had been happening for the last few days. Time to open our eyes to what is actually happening and not what the models say. Hope I'm wrong.

I just don't understand how something that big, that powerful, makes a 90 degree turn north...

Seems to be a slight trend in that direction in some of these models today. Still so much difference in the extremes either way. South Florida still the bullseye for right now.

Not unless it's 25ft above sea level. Storm surge with this storm is going to be unreal.

That's because most of the water bound for Fla and the gulf coast was diverted to Texas and Harvey relief. That is compounding the situation.

That eye is pretty impressive.
What's fricking amazing about that satellite picture is that you can clearly see the stadium effect in it. You can see the shadow on the East side of the eyewall as the sun rises, then the shadow disappears as the sun passes overhead, then the West side is in shadow when the sun is setting on it.
Anyone who's been in Tiger Stadium for a day game knows this is precisely what you're seeing there. God help you if you're sitting in the East lower for a 2:30 game on fricking CBS in September.

One of my former coworkers just moved to a retirement condo in Sarasota. He said people were fighting over loaves of bread at Publix.

This is going to be a bigger problem than anyone has talked about yet.

12z HMON takes Irma down to 861 mb, and 865 mb right before landfall in Miami:
861 mb is 9 mb lower than the current world record low pressure for a cyclone.
Hopefully the HMON is an outlier, but it has consistently predicted a record breaking pressure.
