Dynamics have to be "right" for a hurricane and almost perfect for a cat 5.

The doom and gloom crowd hypes up water temps, but water temps are only part of the equation.

When it comes to the hurricane hype train, the water is always “abnormally warm”.

Charlotte is opening some schools as shelters, in case anyone knows of some people who maybe aren’t in a financial position to rent a hotel room for multiple days (or if they fill up).

Is it just shear or is the storm not in warm enough waters to fix itself after the eye replacement

That's a complicated question. Water temps are just the fuel, and they're warm enough but it needs the right structure to fully tap them.

Eat a little drier air? Evaporative cooling short circuits the process. Even modest shear pushing the higher cloud tops at a bit of an angle and it doesn't get to take advantage of milking the most energy out of the inflow from max cooling the air. Hell, a big windfield can mix colder water up in front of the storm and effectively lower the surface temps a tad.

Lots of little things keep storms from going 190 mph.

The WPac churns them out regularly but there are often big areas of light shear and a huge pool of extremely warm and deep water to feed on. The Atlantic doesn't really have that.

I look forward to the Facebook memes.

Despite the "American Beer" jokes, I give them a lot of credit for doing it. But I'm a fairly long-distance observer with no dog in the hunt - does the water actually make it into the affected areas in noticeable quantities?

A local warlord gets most of the water TBH.

Damn I didn't realize how rare it is for hurricanes to hit as category 4 or 5. I guess I got so use to hurricanes growing up I almost thought it was common for them to become this strong and hit the US.
