Richmond? Washington?
Seems like going north is better than going south.

A friend has a son graduating from Marine boot camp Parris Island SC and they are speaking of evacuating and closing shop- canceling graduation -and they rarely close shop.

Thanks, I agree. The problem with everyone on NC East Coast is where to book a hotel for Wed. today.
I'd be thinking mountains. The rain is going to get squeezed by the forced rising up the slopes. So get on the other side of some of the higher peaks and you could stay relatively close by with reduced risks. Consult NWS forecasts to nail down a location though.
Running north might sound safe but there's a big flood threat all up through VA.

Can anyone comment on the timing of the orange X near the yucatan? Are we thinking off TX/LA mid week? Weekend? Just trying to figure out timing not so much strength although that is a concern also. TIA

It just depends on where you're coming from. You'll need to make sure you go south enough, which could be a problem if you're in NC, or north/west enough, which could be a problem because of the extensive rain predicted after landfall. The wide range of this thing can make decision-making on where exactly to go troublesome for most of the coast.

Looks like that system will be a Friday impact, if any. Euro has it essentially stalling near Corpus Christi.

All home depots in the wilm NC (and I am sure SC coast) area have shipments of briggs & Stratton gemerators they are $800. They have no other ones. And they are seliing like cheap hotcakes.
A $100 window unit is also a great investment!

quote:Exactly. I just moved from Carolina Bch. (which is Wilmington for those that don't know) inland 30 miles right past the next county. Usually I would be where people could evac to but local news saying it could stall right over this area for 24 hours straight! So all's I can do is be ready for anything and to be ready to leave to a hotel-- where-- won't be known anytime real soon. Maybe outside of Charlotte or Asheville.

My old generator only powered essentials. I just got a whole home one. But yeah it is easy to forget how hot it can get-especially since we are still in the high 80s and very humid and high 70's at night. Even before the cane was coming I heard our ocean ---off the carolina coasts- water temp. was hotter than normal for this time of year.

Has a decent projection on rainfall too could be a flood event. I’d watch it.

This. You can get good deals on a solar panel and charge converter. You won't be able to run alot, but it sure beats having to worry about getting gas etc. Also great for keeping phone charged, radio, light. A couple golf cart batteries from Sams and you have a pretty decent setup.
I have a small chest freezer that I use as an emergency fridge. I just have an outlet with a thermostat. It cuts off when the temp reaches 33. I keep the thermostat in a cup of water in the fridge to reduce the number of times the compressor kicks on and off.

CHAR is a major Airport hub. Air Travel might be wonky next week.

Honestly I think going up to the mountains would be a bad idea, even if it's seemingly on the dry side. 40" in the mountains will be catastrophic. Mudslides will wash out roads. Dams could be in trouble. Seeing what that kind of rain did to houston last year, I can't imagine that happening in a place with topography.
