Gonna drive down there in a few minutes and take a look.
Cantore is at Stuart. They showed him catching wind in a band that came through. You should bring him a breakfast Bloody Mary.

US is incredibly lucky with how this is looking to turn out. No doubt lives saved and billions of dollars in damage avoided with the north turn.

There is still a shite ton of coastline for this thing to miss before we can call anyone lucky.

Did anyone see the live interview Cantore did Friday with the Florida Governor? As they were exchanging pleasantries, the Gov says “we are never happy to see you in our state Jim”. The look on Cantore’s face was priceless.

An EF4 tornado has winds around 200 mph.
Which lasts about 30 seconds over any given point.

I can't imagine what a nearly the same winds as that sustained for hours on end.
that 200+ mph wind in Dorian is not sustained. It's a gust. The winds measured in a storm are maximum sustained winds for 1 minute. That's where the 185 mph came from.

And being realistic I highly doubt anyone is getting 180+ plus for hours on end. I get the usefulness off weather pros using a tornado comparison, but it seems a bit misleading.

Which model has the best track record so far for *this* storm and what is it showing right now?

Go watch the tropical tidbits video for last night. They've all been pretty good at predicting the slow down and I'm sure we'll see the turn. The interesting bit was that the HWRF model predicts some weakening from colder water being brought to the surface. That may shorten the storm vertically which lessens the steering flow from the upper atmosphere that the models have been counting on to steer it away from the coast.

And if you look at the forecast, the eye will still be whipping the west side of the island TOMORROW MORNING!!!

HMON, HWRF, GFS, CMS are all showing at least partial eye grinding away from near Jacksonville all the way to the the outer banks of North Carolina.

This is not a good forecast this morning as it it shows weakening in the trough to the north.

Why? The dude is never goes where the storm hits. He stays just close enough to where he can get some wind gusts and create theatrics with his helmet, etc. At this point, he and most at TWC, are actors.

So dramatic

My 4 and 6 year olds had no difficulties walking upright and playing for the duration of the time out there.

Don't get me wrong its really windy, but not a whole lot windier than when we get a front at the beach.
