I don't believe so. At this point 165 is the max they could find and that's in a relatively small area. 150+ for hours, doubtful. 90 to at times 165 for hours. Not good either way.

Yeah I didn't mean to imply it was continuous, more that they'll see winds around that speed for a day.

Hope they don't think the storm's over since it's taking so long to move. It's probably amazing weather in there right now.

I know I’ve posted a million satellite images, but this thing is mesmerizing to look at.

Am I correct in saying that at least the NE quadrant is off land? Isn’t that there the worst is usually found?

It depends on the motion. Right now that’s the northwest quadrant.

Is the turn north still expected?

NE quadrant being the worst is only relevant if its moving due north (e.g. from the gulf).

If it's stationary there is no best or worst side.

I'm sure we will, but they were a British colony until 1973, so hopefully the Brits and some other countries will step up as well.

If you talk to the former Brit islands there, they will all tell you the Brit government practically ignored them and provided very little in infrastructure and support. Interestingly, the former French islands say they French served them well.

Yes, but areas like Crown Haven were in the shite for hours over night.

It looks like the slight interaction with land and the forces stalling the storm to drive it north are hindering the strom’s development a little. But it’s still extremely powerful.

You can see the loss of the very cold cloud tops and it looks like they’re unwinding from the center in a way.

Woke up this am hoping to see something from the people on the Abacos. Still nothing. Heart breaking.

Same here. I was downvoted plenty a bit earlier for suggesting the worse. Not a single tweet has come out once the back eye wall started crossing. No way all the cell tower batteries or towers themselves went out at once. The devastation will look like Mexico Beach, the loss of life will be much greater.

The front wall destroyed or weakened everything. The back wall probably did the final blow.

Freeport is on the west side of the eye by only a few miles and yet according to a gold star weather station there on wunderground.com the highest wind gust today has been 66 mph with an average of 42.9 mph. There are none reporting from the east side of the eye, though.

Not saying Freeport was spared as I’m sure hours upon hours of 40-70 mph winds is going to do a bunch of damage but it’s not catastrophic there either.

They're pretty much cut off from any communications... and with the slow moving storm still overhead they probably won't get anyone in or out until later this week.

I'm terrified to see what's going to happen to Grand Bahama after 24+ hours of cat 4-5 winds.
