#Dorian has nearly stalled over Grand Bahama, drifting northwest.

In a game of inches, the fact that this is occurring over the eastern half of the island instead of the western half might be good news for Florida, but it guarantees nothing.

Horrifying morning for Grand Bahama.

I’m scheduled to fly into Fort Lauderdale Friday. I know they are a little south and it might turn before hitting South Florida but what should I expect? How do airports handle these type events?

I would keep checking in with the airport just to make sure everything is still a go or if they closed.

Satellite images definitely look like it’s moving northwest now, perhaps even NNW.

My stomach dropped when I saw that. Unreal. Eye wall looks like a hole saw.

US is incredibly lucky with how this is looking to turn out. No doubt lives saved and billions of dollars in damage avoided with the north turn.

FLL airport closing at Noon today. Should be open by Friday. I’m waiting for them to reopen so I can fly back home.

Check their social media/web page for updates.

Florida has been really lucky on the eastern side of the state when it comes to hurricanes. Matthew , irma and hopefully Dorian will be 3 monster hurricanes(all cat 5 hurricanes at one point) that have rode the eastern coast of florida in like the last 5 years.Fingers crossed we dodge another bullet.

Spares us when no snowbirds are down. If our friends from New Jersey were here I bet they’d plow straight through.

Irma didn't ride the EASTERN coast. It came over the Keys, and up the peninsula, just WEST of where I live in central FL(The Villages).

you are correct on irma but the impact could have been much worse had it stayed a cat 5 and hit florida east coast with direct hit

WE probably have the Keys to thank for it's intensity decrease.
