Let this be a reminder to all the boomers who throw away resumes with millenial names.

There was a very powerful storm, Gilbert, (back in the 90's? ) that was forecast to turn north after it entered the Gulf of M. from the Caribbean.
It very slowly and persistently continued heading west during which time forecasters continued to predict a north turn all the way until it hit a relatively empty stretch of Mexico after crossing the entire Gulf of M. in a straight line.
Afterward forecasters attributed this error in their predictions to the massive overall size and strength of the storm negating the effect of external steering.
Yes, this true. Certainly should be cause for making precautionary moves in Florida NOW, just in case.

Think of it this way: when a nuclear weapon goes off on top of your head and turns you into plasma, does it matter if it was a 15 kt device or a 150kt device?

Agreed. We just need to drop 150kt device and turn Dorian into plasma

only as much as you would trust someone that doesn’t know the difference between a graph and a table.

No EWRCs is pretty incredible sor a storm of this intensity is his long.

There is a reason every NHC discussion of EWRCs talks about how difficult they are to predict.

The weather establishment is going to have a lot of egg on its face when this thing wipes out the Florida coast. They’ve been preaching a turn for days, lulling people into a false sense of security.

So overall moving west nice and slow.

Wobbles N or S aren't going to have much of an impact on Florida's story. It's how far west Dorian gets.

Not saying this storm won't hit Florida but Gilbert was a different monster. Twice the size of Dorian. So big and strong it had sustained winds over 200mph and a double eye wall. The weak steering winds had no effect on it. Meteorologists said it created its own environment.

Let's do this on a relative basis for now. If Abacos is 100%, the rest are sub 5%.

That’s what I wanted- a comparative analysis of fricked.

can someone explain why wilma had the same wind speed as dorian but was 882mb and dorian is 911mb

Depends on the surrounding environment. Wind speed is because of the pressure differential, so 882 in a lower pressure environment will produce similar winds as 911 in a higher pressure environment.

It also has to go with some side. Dorian is not very big.

Just stop.

ETA - look at the southern eyewall in the first Fram and the last frame. It's slowly gaining latitude, if anything.
