Strongest hurricane according to modern records...and its name is Dorian. Dorian.

Slack, so you think this will make landfall in Florida?
No, I think the fear factor in Florida should be 1/20th of what it is in Abacos until further notice.

Meteorologists said it created its own environment.
They literally never said that.
The story with Gilbert is typically butchered on here.
Mets missed the ridge continuing to build over Gilbert.
For the last time, hurricanes don't control their own destiny. They're pushed about by ridges and troughs.
THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS MOMENTUM IN HURRICANES.

Not a tornado, this was common here in PC. After Michael everyone was swearing a tornado went “right over my house”. No tornadoes, that was just 160+mph gust. Never forget the sight of train cars and semis stacked against each other trying to make it to my parents after the storm

Damn Baw. That is like getting a solid kick in the nads an hour before the fight starts.

Euro initializes with a stronger ridge vs projected on 12z yesterday. It doesn't seem to change the game very much through 48 hours. Ends up a little west of the 12z yesterday but seems pretty close to the 0z by me eyeballing it.

Is there a Christmas Tree in that room?

Nah, you're just in here taking wishcasting from Storm2k and Wunderground and posting it here. Those sites suck. Stay off of them. Duke and rds won't say it, but I will.
I caught up on 15 pages of the thread since this morning and it's a bunch of unnecessary Florida hype. This storm will be within 100 or so miles of its current spot in the next 48 hours. It's about to slow to a crawl. Watching wobbles is useless. Stop the Florida hype until something changes. If you're on the east coast of Florida, stay vigilant. Nothing more, nothing less.

160+mph gust
That is what is hard for peole to comprehend.
Generally speaking, the force exerted by 160 mph wind is FOUR times more than 80 mph winds.
So basically 4x stronger than a solid Cat 1. Or similar damage as an EF3 tornado is possible

I don't think that big skylight was in the roof 4 hours ago. I hope those people live to tell the grandkids about it.

I said this 3 days ago, got this stock answer.

Once again, that's not how it works. The environment controls the storm. That will never change.
Yes, there are many factors that determine where a storm is going. But the system has its own variables. So it is not that crazy that it will go where it wants.
Last night, I even heard Bryan Norcross of Andrew fame talking about Dorian eroding the high in order to make the turn. Wouldn’t that constitute my theory of storms impacting their own paths.
It is part of the same reason why you have look at previous storms and patterns to give you guidance.

I suspect he probably pumped that ridge with all the latent heat he was throwing out, without doing any actual research on the subject.

There is angular momentum.
Yeah though, synoptic features do the steering.

What are the chances of this thing actually making land fall in south Florida?
