I use the Amex Premier Rewards Gold Card. I usually get back 2-3x the annual fee, but I'm pretty sure there are ways to get back much more money than I do. I don't feel like playing the CC game, but I know others do it to varying degrees of success.

Sign in to credit karma. Check out theirs. See if you can get the venture card. Points are awesome on it.

I would go to a local credit union and make a deposit. Open a loan borrowing against your money. Pay perfectly for 12 months and see if they will give you a larger loan, 5-10(. Same thing, let it perfect pay autodraft for at least 18 months.

Minimize credit inquiries to 2 per year.
I have been getting the recommendation on CK for the AMEX Blue Cash Preferred for months now. It says that I have very good approval odds, but I'm still unsure about applying.

Do you have kids? We were like that until we had our son. It's amazing what an obnoxious toddler will do to your eating out habits.

Yes and they eat out with us regularly and have been doing it since they were infants. The more they do it and if they know what's expected of them they will adapt

The amex blue just has a pathetically low spending limit.

The venture card was 20k when I first got it. They bump it 1-3k every six months or so.

Add to that extended warranties for most CCs

Extended warranties for purchasing with a credit card? I have never ever heard of that. That's insane. I would never agree to that with a CC agreement.

It is shocking how many people do not understand the difference between a bill and debt
