This thread has made me go in to make sure that number is right. Christ that is a lot of money. Best restaurant on the list this year was in Dublin at Restaurant Patrick Guilbaud. That place was unreal. I recommend the chef tasting and wine pairing. I would also recommend places like Filomena in DC, Parkway Grill in Pasadena, and Houmas House here locally.

My wife doesn't even care for eating out. She'd rather eat at home and buy shoes, lots and lots of shoes.

That's nice. Although I've made over $1,200 in cash back just this year. 6% back on groceries is nice since it's the bulk of our monthly expenses.
Some on here use it as a wealth builder like Ford Motor Credit.

Paid the bulk of Xmas expenses already. Probably 6-7 over the last couple months

I guess if that is their worst trait, we both lucked out. lol but it's hilarious how many shoes one person needs.

I'd like to know what credit card he's using. I'm getting 2% cash back on all purchases, and 6% groceries would be ~$100 more.
If he's using Amex Blue Cash Preferred, then he's spent quite a bit to get $1200 in cash back this year. The 6% is only on the first $6,000 in grocery purchases. That's $360. Tack on the promo $200, and he'd still need to spend an additional $42,000 to get to $1200 in cash back (assuming 1.25% cash back on average for the rest of the spending).

Not an OT baller, but our monthly bill for dining last month was $810.
That's a lunch every day for me. One dinner a week for at a cheap place. One nice dinner every two weeks. And one meh dinner every two weeks.
Now that I'm actually seeing it, we aren't eating out for two months

Yes and no. He could be stacking points with Costco exec membership, a new card, and a points gift for spending a certain amount.

Do you have kids?
We were like that until we had our son. It's amazing what an obnoxious toddler will do to your eating out habits.

So it's irresponsible for someone else to eat out and earn cash back rewards while doing so but your wife can buy countless pairs of unnecessary shoes without earning cc rewards and that's A ok? You sound pretty smart

Ah I didn't realize that.
I might not be maximizing my rewards potential, but I do love that I just swipe one card and know exactly what I'm getting with no limits.
I should admit though that it's not "cash back." It's rewards points, but we use them like cash for booking hotels and have found travel deals that have saved us quite a bit of money on vacations.

This seems as good a place as any to ask...looking to continue building credit
I have the entry level discover card and I get 1% back on everything plus 2% for like gas and groceries and shite. This is my first year and they are matching it all at the end of the year as well. Everything is going fine, I pay it off in full every couple weeks just to be extra cautious. My credit score hovers around 720-740 on their free reporting service. The discover card is my only line of credit.
What’s my next move to continue building credit and even get a card with some better rewards? I have 0 debt so I’m not building credit through student loans or anything. My car is owned outright and I’m not buying a house anytime soon. Should I just get another card or two to decrease utilization and increase my lines of credit? I also don’t want to get denied or have too many credit inquiries.

Sign in to credit karma. Check out theirs. See if you can get the venture card. Points are awesome on it.
I would go to a local credit union and make a deposit. Open a loan borrowing against your money. Pay perfectly for 12 months and see if they will give you a larger loan, 5-10(. Same thing, let it perfect pay autodraft for at least 18 months.
Minimize credit inquiries to 2 per year.
