Sure there is.

Recent studies (one out of Israel I may be able to find) suggest that individual response to certain "carbs" is highly individualized.

Study on Blood Sugar Response

This type of study has prompted people to check blood sugar after each whack of a certain carb to check individual response and create a library of "personally acceptable carbs."

I'll be the average person who thinks they eat OK is still pumping in at least 175g of carbs/sugar per day. With some simple adjustments, they can lower that to 75g or less. I don't really advocate full keto, but I do advocate people being more mindful.

I disagree. Or rather, I think the effect carbs have is overblown for the general majority.

If the carbohydrates you're consuming contain fiber, the absorption process is slowed down. I take in about 140-150g carb/day. The key is for your carb sources to be nutritious and they should contain fiber. Processed, refined carbs are just as bad as sugar. Lentils and squashes, for example, are chocked full of fiber and nutrients and just fine when eaten in reasonable amounts. Pasta is void of nutrients and fiber, yet calorically dense, and should be avoided.

Right, which is why I said net carbs. Fibrous carbs are great and should be eaten in abundance (preferably via green vegetables.)

Lentils and beans can be eaten in moderation and do have the benefit of coming with some healthful stuff, but in general, it's better to eat less of them. Most squashes are suitable.

Quinoa has lots of protein. IMO, that doesn't mean it's "good for you" to eat it.

Like others have mentioned, intermittent fasting is different for everyone. Some articles have mentioned that health benefits include natural increase of testosterone, improved internal organ health, and helps with weight loss as your body burns fat quickest in the 18-24 hour fasting window.

I'm not really trying to lose weight but have started (over past 1-2 yrs) to include a fast of about 20-24 hrs once/month along with a couple of 16 hr fasts (just skipping breakfast).

For example, I ate a lot of fried foods this weekend washed down with a plethora of beers. Today, I'll feel a little hungry at times but then it'll kind of go away and be replaced with the feeling of having clogged arteries. I don't recommend my approach to anyone (i.e. eating so terribly) but following it with a 24 hr fast can help the body recover IMO.

Most people do it to lose weight and stick to a more regular approach. Not sure if just a placebo situation, but I always feel much healthier after doing it.

So when you're figuring out fat intake, do you go by total fat, sat fat, unsat fat, or does it matter?

Total fat. Saturated animal fats primarily, but cold-pressed oils are great too. Avocado oil, coconut oil, olive oil. Grassfed butter. Walnuts, macadamia nuts, raw almonds are all great sources of fat also.

Big thumbs up. Throwing out all the lousy oils and replacing with quality oils and butter is a great first step. Then you can start using them liberally and guilt free. Be sure to read up on the effects of cooking heat on various oils as well. You can also add lard and tallow to the approved list.

I am on here all the time trying to spread the word. The link below is the most succinct read on maintaining health. The author advocates eating real food. His philopsphy is rooted in a "ancestral health" model. This is the basis of most functional medicine approaches to health.

The book posted on page 3 of this thread is also a great resource.

So, the OP states marked improvement in metabolic parameters while experiencing increased quality of life and maintaining a sustainable diet.

Multiple posters join in and report similar experiences

Some posters appropriately report different degrees of carb tolerance depending on individualized factors

Seems like a pretty reasoned discussion

Are you a strict calories in/calories out guy? State a position instead of ridicule/ presumptions.

Vegan?

Sugar and carbs are not the devil.

I wonder what the average HgbA1c is for random Asians eating a traditional Asian diet.

Probably not a lot of Januvia being sold in Asia.

I ridiculed a presumption you dumb arse. How ignorant are you in reality? Show me where sugar is blaming fats. Not hard. I blame people. I have unlimited sugar intake and weight is no issue for me. Activity, activity is the gold nugget you seek. Not excuses.

Prove me wrong other than random posters.
