Good to hear. I saw someone mention potassium and magnesium supplements. How many mg's should I take a day?

Weight is but one of many "issues" on the list. You should be much more concerned with the havoc being wreaked on every cell in your body by a constant onslaught of sugar. Get back to me when you are 65 and things like diabetes, cancer and alzheimers start popping up.
But on top of that, you're wrong about activity. Diet is vastly more relevant in maintaining weight than exercise.

kids. they don't listen. they know it all at 18 years old because they can eat 25 bags of skittles in a row and a 2 liter coke and don't gain weight.

I can't remember the documentary name, but i remember seeing one that basically compared processed sugar to cocaine. The same things happen in your body when you ingest either.
Pretty crazy. I am by no means living by eating a perfect diet, but I try to limit the amount of sugar I eat. Carbs (mainly beer and bread) are another story though

Yeah, the next step for you is to admit to yourself that beer and bread are effectively nothing but sugar and try to limit those also. They do make some low carb bread that isn't bad.

Carbs turn to sugar though.

Guess what is the major driver of insulin....
quote:
Elevated insulin is also strongly associated with obesity, which is expected soon to overtake smoking as the leading cause of preventable cancer. Cancers linked to obesity and diabetes have more receptors for insulin and IGF-1, and people with defective IGF-1 receptors appear to be nearly immune to cancer. Retrospective studies, which look back at patient histories, suggest that many people who develop colorectal, pancreatic or breast cancer have elevated insulin levels before diagnosis. It’s perhaps not entirely surprising, then, that when researchers want to grow breast-cancer cells in the lab, they add insulin to the tissue culture. When they remove the insulin, the cancer cells die.

Frick you. Laziness is to blame for fat.
I love when people think they are going to lose weight just by changing the way they eat without exercising.

Please elaborate. It is extremely difficult to lose weight and keep it off without exercising. Eating less will work fine for a few weeks but eventually said person will cave and put the weight back on. There is no way to get around living a healthy life without exercising

Did not contradict myself. Yes by cave I mean eat like shite again.
Eating less without exercising is not an effective or efficient way to lose weight. Bottom line

While well structured exercise is important for health, the quality of the diet is the bigger factor.
Too many people are stuck in the simplistic model that you just need to move more/eat less. This is a very crude way to think about it. Using that construct, a person could be compelled to believe all they have do is exercise their way out of the problem. This is not sustainable long term due to the inevitable attrition that occurs to the body.
A better construct is to view food as information. Meal timing and macronutrient composition can have a huge, amplified impacts due to the effects of hormones on many levels. With this mindset it makes more sense to "feed you activity level". When exercising, recover with more generous carb intake. When sedentary, restrict carbs and rely of fat/proteins. This approach is far more sustainable /effective by a person at any age. The limitation is that it actually requires more critical thinking than "I will just work harder"
