I am not a crazy conspiracy person, but I do think sugar is the true culprit in most cases and not fat.
There are several Vegan documentaries that will say the exact same about the meat and dairy industry.
I feel not eating like an 'Merican is key.
Balance and portions are key.
Keto diets are great for losing quick weight and moving numbers like that, but how sustainable is it as a lifestyle?
Understanding that meat is a luxury and should not be a staple for humans is key IMHO.
I've done keto diets and I've gone full Vegan for a while. The key I took away is just portion control and making carbs and veggies more than the main dish. Which in america is a huge portion of meat covered in dairy.
Key is balance and not eating shite! If your food is coming out of a cellophane wrapper, its probably not good for you.
Keto has experts and Vegans has experts? Gotta find balance.

Ive lost 110 pounds in less than a year. No special diets I eat as much as I want I just follow a couple rules
Meats, Vegetables, and fruits only on a 40,40,20 ratio.
Vegetables have to be something that can be eaten raw, so no beans, corn, peas, potatoes etc.
thats it. very easy to maintain.

Interesting NY Times Article that goes into how the sugar industry paid off Harvard researchers to blame fat instead of sugar.
You ought to read up on Archer Daniels Midland and how High Fructose Corn syrup is in about every product now. Richard Manning has a good book Against the Grain.

This is my beef with Keto. Too many people confuse losing weight with being healthy. It's a necessary first step, but not an end goal.
I was part of a performance study on keto and other diets and there are some legit long-term concerns (for some).
1.) Gut Health - You've got to really work to provide enough food for a healthy gut flora. It's possible, but the "meat & eggs" and minimal veggie Keto dudes will jack their guts up over time.
2.) Sleep Quality - We saw a decent number of complaints over sleep quality. It's almost undeniable that evening carbs help downregulate and start the cascade of serotonin to help ease into sleep.
3.) Testosterone & Hormones - If you are an active dude, there's some legit concern that too few carbs can really impact your T levels. Also looks like there's a thyroid risk for women.
I did Keto for a while and it was practically a Nootropic for me. I was noticeably sharper at work. However, I noticed some gut issues and some performance issues in sprint/intense training.
I've settled on around 125g of daily carbs, all coming after 2pm. Works best for me.

Some good topics being discussed but I will try to stay closer to the OP and say that sugar is a big (biggest?) reason for our country's health epidemic. Further, I think that the sugar industry is deflecting the negative impacts of sugar (in quantities being consumed) and that could be considered morally wrong.

A good comprehensive read for those interested

How many calories per day? That is a lot more important than how many carbs.

Im trying to make my macros fit into a 2k caloric goal. I know from my heart rate monitor I burn as high as 800 cal when I do Plyometrics. Im not sure how much I burn when I lift but I dont take much time in between sets so I can keep the heart pumping.

Are these the same scientists that we trust today for their Climate Change findings?

I try to avoid talking about diet/exercise IRL because that can be annoying to hear (so I'll do it here to get it out of my system).
I try to eat in moderation most of the time but also enjoy over-eating, 'bad' foods, and drinking alcohol 1-2x/week. I also enjoy many different forms of exercise, some intense.
I feel fortunate that my 30s were during the information age of being able to google any question or stumbling across useful articles. Something as simple as intermittent fasting can be a huge benefit to health. I've never done a formal 'diet' but have incorporated things such as IF to supplement overall health.
