I never thought that San Antonio had a big city vibe.

It doesn't, yet the place is pretty damn big.

One of those big towns that still has a medium-size town feel.

i like the city and the country (not a small town, or a little acre lot, but the country) and nothing in between

which is why the suburbs arent so bad. (compared to the city anyway)

if San Antonio had bad traffic like it should it would be horrible though

I dont think all suburbs are bad

Yeah I always laugh when some folks complain about SA traffic. As big as this place is, it's tame traffic-wise.

I have to go through 1604/i-10 every day and it really only adds 5-10 mind during rush hour. I don't frick with 281 tho

Houston is a prime example in that the actual size or population of a city matters in what people would call an 'urban' or 'big city' feel or living.

apparently the city is #7 but the metro is #24

maybe that has something to do with it? and the highway system

i think population density, especially in the downtown/heart of the city area , has to be the biggest factor

I'm 27, single, and love city life. I would imagine once I'm married and especially once I have children that will change.

Basically when you're young, single and want to go out on the weekends, city life is better. When you get older and have a family, I would assume suburbs would be more appealing.

Yep. Jacksonville has more people than SF and like 400k more than Atlanta (talking city limits here). Yet I suspect most people would say from that group of three that JAX is the least city-like

I spent the ages of 4 and 5 on Cartwheel Ln. In SA.

This is an unoriginal, mindless statement

But it's true for me. Key word being "me," not "you." I live 10 minutes from my business without having to get on the interstate. I have an acre of land with a creek and a garden. I have a quality house built before cheap Mexican labor. My neighbor's house is more than a 5' setback from my property line. I don't live somewhere with an HOA. I'm 5 minutes from any nationality restaurant or grocery I want. I can hear the monkeys from the zoo some evenings. I'm 12 minutes from downtown, or really any part of the south, east, or west side of Nashville. I also don't have to worry about a gun being pointed at me.

But some people like the suburbs. That's okay. Just not for me.

Well when you crossed the longest bridge in the world - the 17th Street Canal bridge, you crossed from Jefferson Parish to Africa.

But the total area of Jacksonville is bigger than any city in the continental US

Contiguous, maybe. There's a half dozen in Ak that are larger. Juneau is over 3,000 sq miles.

I don't know why people try and make it more complicated than this. Cost of living means a whole lot more when you are accounting for more than one person.
