have some fantastic suburbs.
yes, to rot away while youre raising a family.
no single person worth half his salt is going to choose to live in those suburbs over the city.

The average New Orleanian is either making shite food at home or ordering chain pizza or shite food takeout just like everybody else 99% of the time.
No one that I know is doing this nearly as often as suburbanites.

that's exactly what AA is. It's not a suburb
That's what a suburb is, mainly pre WW11. Newer ones are primarily bedroom communities, older ones are towns or small cities.

It's possible to give your children a great childhood in the city as well.

The large majority of all of the Dallas Cowboys, Mavs, and Stars all live outside of the city. Most are young and single.

LaProvence Pardos Throw in Gallagher's, Dakota, Del Porto, Annadeles for good measure and excellent meals. This post was edited on 6/14 at 7:40 pm
Leave off the last two and I'm in agreement (Del Porto does nothing for me and Annadeles is meh). I put Gallagher's first but that's just my opinion. Ive been to all on numerous occasions.

As for suburbs, when they were developed makes a difference to me. The lakefront in Mandeville, the riverfront in Madisonville, and downtown Covington are on point. The new construction in the area reminds me of the Woodlands, Cinco Ranch etc. etc. In short, upper middle class, soccer moms, and low or no crime is the norm. All excellent quality of life issues but still lacking imho. Some neighborhoods in Nola, Houston, and Dallas (the three I'm most familiar with) are either majorly expensive, dangerous, or in the case of some spots in Nola...both. The suburbs are a good option for many, but I'm going with:
1. an older downtown in an affluent area first
2. the "country" area near one of those towns in #1
3. a safe neighborhood in a major city
4. the suburbs (cookie cutter style...especially Houston -ex. Katy)
5. lively city neighborhoods that may be sketchy
All would suffice for me. I guess it's about what you desire at that point in your life.
Just my .02

But it's true for me. Key word being "me," not "you." I live 10 minutes from my business without having to get on the interstate. I have an acre of land with a creek and a garden. I have a quality house built before cheap Mexican labor. My neighbor's house is more than a 5' setback from my property line. I don't live somewhere with an HOA. I'm 5 minutes from any nationality restaurant or grocery I want. I can hear the monkeys from the zoo some evenings. I'm 12 minutes from downtown, or really any part of the south, east, or west side of Nashville. I also don't have to worry about a gun being pointed at me.
But some people like the suburbs. That's okay. Just not for me.
What area are you in? I live between Nashville and Murfreesboro. I guess you could call it suburbs/country. I do live in a small subdivision, but it's on a cul de sac(zero traffic) with no HOA. Im close enough to a golf course that I could get a ball to it with a driver. I can drive less than 5 minutes and put my boat in Percy Priest Lake or 5 minutes the other way and put in at the Stones River. So, I'm not sure how you'd categorize it. I would like to get a place with more acreage eventually.
I lived in Nashville for 10 years before the move. I lived in a few places within the city, one of which was an apartment right above a bar directly on Broadway in downtown. I don't miss it one bit.

I will never live more than half an hour from work. Driving any more than that 5 days a week just seems miserable.

First of all, what city are you talking about that has these? Every town in the world has a kebab place, so let me know specifically what I am missing out on.
And second, who wants to eat that shite anyways? Those places are best known for terrorism and starvation. I'm sure as shite never going to visit them, so I think I can live without eating their food.

Live there now, only problem is inconvenience, haven't lived in the city limits in 30 plus years, like my privacy though

I hear it, but I'm on the other side of the neighborhood. Also helps that I grew up in this neighborhood and have heard it most of my life.

you go to the suburbs to actually "live" your live, city living is just a pure waste of your existence and your energy.
