It's pretty much straight burbs the 50 miles south until you hit DC
I like Baltimore although the crime sucks, but they have some cool unique hoods with character. Blue collar old port city. It's like Nola with old bay and crabs everywhere.
Those old rowhouse hoods are awesome and timeless. Hope you aren't comparing them mundanely to cookie cutter burb houses?

I grew up in champions area. I own a home in the heights now.
I have flexibility in my job and if I had to go to the burbs the woodlands would be a top pick, behind memorial.
The woodlands do have an underrated access to an active lifestyle. I rowed in college and I would hit up lake woodlands a lot if I lived up there. But I am like you, I have a ton of flexibility at work and could plan to avoid bad commutes.

When I got married in my early 30s and wife was pregnant with first kid.

They're void of any individuality, I'd say they aren't really much different. Arcitectually they aren't anything special.
I prefer the tight little neighborhoods with unique old homes in Portland. We have a neighborhood like that here called the Flats.

you could easily be describing rows of brownstones in hoods across the east river in Brooklyn
Posted on 6/14/17 at 9:31 pm to SuperSaint
Some are nice, some look like warehouses converted to living spaces.

I'm 36 and I just moved from the burbs to the city and love it! Love being inside the loop

The sticks >>> the burbs

I live in the deep sticks and love it. 100 acres of quiet and to me it's the tits. Might not be for everybody but I don't base my happiness on how many coffee shops or tapas places are within a 2 mile range.

Give me a small town (less than 5,000 people) or a house where my nearest neighbor is at least a mile away

The sound of gunfire, off in the distance,
I'm getting used to it noooowwww.

I could easily do this too and plan to when I'm retired.

I thought you loved the city?
Posted on 6/14/17 at 9:51 pm to GreatLakesTiger24
I love living in the suburbs in San Antonio. Just outside Loop 1604.
Don't know why the 'burbs get so much hate, tbh.
