I guess, depends your exact route into the city... but it's pretty damn discernible
Yep. There are only about 8 roads from Metry to Orleans:
NO-Hammond highway: maybe not immediately, but you'll know in a couple of blocks crossing from Bucktown to Lakeview/Lake Vista. Very different.
Vets: big commercial corridor, once it turns into Polk it is obviously not Metairie.
Interstate: yeah, the interstate and environs are pretty similar everywhere.
Metairie rd: pretty similar on both sides. Perhaps that is why old Metairie real estate is similar in price to Orleans proper
Airline: see I-10 and Earhart.
Earhart: same as interstate. Shitty, commercial, divided highway.
Jefferson: similar to Earhart, but I imagine one can tell the difference between the industrial warehouses in Jefferson and the neighborhoods on the Orleans side.
Oak/River: only a moron couldn't tell the difference.
Anyway, my original point was that there is an obvious difference between the neighbourhoods in New Orleans and JP.

Yep, those are the only burbs in the country.

They're far more similar to the average suburban community than your Pnw outliers

lolol
Someone really needs to travel more. Would you think Ann Arbor is a terrible place to live?
Suburbs are districts, similar to what you find inside the city limits. Many have the same amenities, restauraunts etc. Philidelphia, Columbus, DC, Detroit, Denver, Atlanta, Houston, Phoenix, LA, San Fran, have some fantastic suburbs.

The suburbs here have Chinese/Japanese and "Mexican." I live just off a main thoroughfare here in Nashville called Little Kurdistan. I have Kurdish, Cuban, Argentinian, Brazilian, Afghan, Indian, Mexican, Guatemalan, Italian, Spanish, North African, Ethiopian, El Salvadorian, and several other types of restaurants and groceries.

Born and raised in the sticks, currently in the big city. Never leaving (I also don't plan on having kids)

This is an unoriginal, mindless statement. As another has said, in many instances there is little difference between the city and it's burbs. I spent my first thirty years in New Orleans and it was of no significant difference between that and those I knew who lived in Metairie. Now I live in Madisonville, and because of these things called automobiles, I can get to a five star restaurant in 10-15 minutes. If I want something else, it's a mere 45 minutes to New Orleans. The benefits are I don't get guns pointed at me as frequently(3 times in Nola).
Confused...I didn't think people that were from new orleans admitted that the city is dangerous as frick. Please clarify.

Mid-30's
ETA: spent a decade in the burbs before moving back into the city.

AA MIGHT technically be considered a suburb, but that's not what anyone thinks of when they hear "suburb
That's because those people don't understand what a suburb is. Most are satellite cities.

Never went straight to and 80 acre farm at 24.
