quote:I only do the macro stuff like Bud and Miller ice cold. I usually prefer stouts, porters, beer like that, which I don't chill as much.
IME most people that claim to like the taste of beer and drink a lot of beer actually don't. They normally want it ice cold, too cold to smell or taste the volatiles. If you hand them a quality beer served at a proper temperature they usually don't like it. Absolutely nothing wrong with liking low taste beer served ice cold but that doesn't equate to the liking the taste of beer.

I was in my 30s before I started to appreciate the actual taste of beer.

I'd say 19-20. I don't know whether it's because I associated it with good times, or it became something my taste buds enjoyed, but I'm glad it happened.

I’ve drank too many beers since then to remember.

8 years old. My Dad would give me half a beer after mowing the lawn. Learned at an early age that I liked Bud the best (1970 Bud), Olympia second best and then Lone Star. Did not like High Life. Coors was Ok but that if you’re out of Bud, it’s tough Schlitz!

My grandparents told me they would give me sips but I was too young to remember.

Different ages with different types. To this day I hate lagers like bud light.
Somethibg like this and I'm great. Always loved stout beers, better flavor IMO.

Probably became ok with, or tolerated beer, around 18 or 19 years old.. but mostly because of the buzzed/drunk feeling it gave me.. at that time, i actually preferred drinks like screwdrivers or Zima (i know.)
Then when i was about 22 i tried Sam Adams for the first time, and i loved it.. granted this was before craft beers or microbrews were widely known, but to me it tasted high quality and i was like ‘Ah, this must be what all the fuss is about’.. it was the first time i actually enjoyed the taste of a beer.

Which flavor of jolly rancher did you put in your Zima?

American lagers have their place...after mowing the lawn in 90 degree heat, eating fried or boiled seafood.
I like the taste of all beers save for Gose and Sours.

Yep. No way I'd want an ice chest full of some hoppy ipa eating crawfish, tailgating or fishing.
