American lagers have their place...after mowing the lawn in 90 degree heat, eating fried or boiled seafood.
I 100% agree. Beer needs to be paired with the situation and food. Fried and boiled seafood go really well with a pilsner which is a slightly more spicy lager.
My point is American macro brews served ice cold don't have much "beer taste".

Craft beer is ridiculous out here. dudes with obnoxious beards are always trying to educate anyone who will listen about beer.
shite that would've been interesting from when I was 15 to 21.

I haven't found a lot of beer that I don't care for other than cider or really fruity beer.
Not as many microbrews back then but my dad always kept a lot of imports like Guinness and McEwans in the house when I was growing up. He didn't really care if I had a few by about 16 or so.

hoppy ipa
The IPA craze has done a disservice to beer drinkers expanding their palettes. There is a arms race among IPA brewers to brew beers with the highest bitterness (IBU) just like craft hot sauce companies are all about nuclear Scoville units, forgetting the taste. They want their sauce to be as close to eating Carolina Reapers as possible.
There are tons of great beers that go with crawfish. But would take a macro-brew American lager over an IPA for that pairing any day.

I think it's the watered down light drinking quality that makes it go with something like tailgating in September. It doesn't sit heavy on my stomach. There are certainly other lighter beers that are better.

No one in my family were drinkers, my highschool girlfriend's dad was though. He didnt care if I got into his outdoor fridge if I earned it.
One time I chopped wood from 9am to 7pm at their house. Out in the countryside, middle of nowhere hot louisiana summer day.
..now there was something about his fridge that was set perfectly. The temperature kept the beer so cold that it had the right amount of ice in it to be drinkable and never annoying. Especially in the cans. Best beer I ever drank back then was always there. He kept a variety, and taught me that beer after a long day tastes best.

Beer drinking is just a social circle jerk. No one drinks it because it "tastes good."
I can understand your disbelief, though, because I will never understand why a person would voluntarily eat a raw oyster, much less enjoy it.
If my life depended on it and I was fresh out of tree bark and cockroaches, I might try an oyster. Or maybe I would just die, that will have to be a game-time decision.
