We used to have Friday night pizza and salad night, I'd make 3 pizzas and a big wop salad. We'd have 2 or 3 couples over, drank a lot of wine and laugh our asses off.

In 2023 I had a bad accident, I took about a year to recover, never got back in the groove. Now about 4 times a year I'll make a special dinner entree for a few friends, but entertaining is tough when you get old.

With the weather getting nicer, maybe a pot of gumbo for friends would be fun.

There’s nothing I enjoy more than beguiling conversation of world politics and culture over vintage wine among a dining table full of cultured associates.

Actually, I’m a lie. That shite sounds stupid.

All the major holidays plus a bunch of birthdays. When it's just my family at home, the house feels like too much. When people come over, it feels too small.

I try to go for "never".

Would prefer that people never come to my house if possible.

Don't...used to alot but got tired of others not reciprocating. Used to in vite folks out on boat.....stopped. Too many people just like to eat, entertain and help you spend your money.
I was raised differently I guess than some folks. I was taught respect for others.
I worked hard for my money.
Now I share with truly underprivileged.

We do it all the damn time. I like it sometimes, but it's mainly a pain in my arse.

But to be honest, I'd rather do shite at my house rather than going to someone else's. So it is what it is.

Our farm is pretty far out, so only for pool parties, bonfires a handful of times a year.

Occasionally guys come over to hang around the barrel fire and sip bourbon. Or for a Sunday afternoon for shooting

But living at the beach this summer we had friends or family there almost every weekend. Was fun.

One of my close friends and his wife came over for dinner one night, I was really on my game, dinner was incredible, everything clicked. My buddy told me that on the way home his wife said, "I'm never cooking for that man, we'll have to take them out to a nice place instead".

I cook out and have all my kids and grandkids over at least one Sunday a month, plus holidays.

If you don’t include them, then never. For a couple years we had a monthly Friday night poker game going with some of my coworkers, but over time several of them moved on to other jobs and it just kind of faded out.

Not as often as I would like because my wifes sees the condition of our house as a reflection of her, but not me. So, asking people over puts her out big time

We have people over about 20 times a year.

One of the reasons is that it forces us to keep a deep clean with frequency.

We alternate weekly with our big friend group so maybe once every two months.

Husbands have a “bring a bottle of liquor and leave what you don’t drink” thing going. I’ve got so much damn bourbon

ETA:

I guess add in one offs with neighbors and crawfish boils and college football probably 15-18 times a year

You watch all these shows where people talk about “entertaining.” The word usage implies you don’t know how to do it right.
We have PARTIES at my house….that happen regularly, often, and spontaneously. The people who “entertain” wish they knew how to actually throw down and have a party.
You need to have good food and can cook or have good friends who can all cook, a drink/beer fridge, gathering space(s), plenty of TVs, extra sleeping ability, and great neighbors who also attend (unless you live in the country….where you need more spare crash space to sleep off the really good parties.) We have learned that you can’t be worried about having the neatest house or a house that is magazine worthy, copious amounts of parking is optional as people walk, drive golf carts, and don’t mind lining the street with vehicles.
Party spaces >entertaining spaces
And people in Louisiana don’t even need this explained but lots of the rest of the country does. You transplants are slacking…
