Age makes a difference

In the 1950's ...

No fast food
No chain restaurants
No sports bars
No internet
No gazillion TV channels

Every night was like a rotating block / house party with home bars and home cooking. You can tell me we have evolved, but on this point, we have not.

Hadnt thought about this…but you are right. Dinner parties used to be a whole lot more common.

I'm Italian, it's always been a Wop salad, I have old menus that list it like that.
It's difficult to find, it was great, olives, artichoke hearts, anchovies, lots of iceberg lettuce, lots of goodies. It can be a meal in itself.

No longer Italain Wop

Meals took 6 hours to consume
14 courses
House and yard full of relatives (like a roaming herd of family)
Matriarch who excelled at 3 things
#1 They cooked for 50, even if you were the only one there
#2 They always had a "nice boy" / "nice girl" to fix the kids up with
#3 Used guilt with a precision a neurosurgeon would envy

Yeah you right. (born 1949).

Wop salad, soggy lettuce and all, has always been a favorite leftover. I'd even hake a sandwich out of it.

That makes you a Catholic Italian

Between the women in your family and the nuns, no way you ever wasted food!
