How much money did you have at 25? What was your life like?

Was watching CNBC and they said this was the age where the average American starts to save money, pay for all the bills without their parents support.

I had around $11,000 living in Dallas.

This might be pocket change to the rest of the OT.

-$350k

I’ve been making interest only payments since then, so I’m good.

25?

I had about the same ($10k).
Had already put a downpayment and bought a home. Bought the engagement ring. Paid for the wedding. Paid off my student debt. Cars were paid for. Was just getting used to taking home more than my "waiting tables" days

I had maybe $50K saved and was living in a house with three roommates in Arlington, VA. I consider myself very lucky to have been able to complete college with no student loans

I was already married, had two children, and finishing up my master's degree.

We were doing pretty well despite being young, and then Hurricane Katrina changed that for us. Although that technically hit before my 25th birthday ... but that was a shitty year.

Lots of lessons learned, though.

That was 2003 so a year before I met my wife. I had been working full time for maybe 3 years post college but I probably only had a few hundred dollars in savings. Everything else was partying money. I had a 401k and all of that.

3 years later I was married with a baby on the way and a mortgage.

At 25 I was deployed on an aircraft carrier. The only money I really spent was in port overseas, plus I had just received a fat re-enlistment bonus, tax-free.

Baw when were you living there? Arlington has been expensive AF for a while now. Having that much on hand and affording that place. Must have been a lobbyist.

2016-2019. I’m in DC now. Rent isn’t THAT bad if you’re willing to split rent in an old house with a bunch of other guys

My wife and I had at least $20k in our savings. But some of it came from a nice severance check from when I got laid off. Also before we had kids too.

I got a late start on my financial responsibility. At 25 I was in debt up to my eyeballs, living paychceck to paycheck and having to rob Peter to pay Paul. It was miserable.

I was an E5 in the Army at 25. I had about $12,000 saved with a car note, BAH outside of Schofield Barracks.
