How much does an "average" Car Accident Lawyer in Louisiana make per year?

Baffles me how half the billboards in Louisiana are car accident lawyers.
Is it that lucrative of a job?
I can understand someone like Morris Bart making a shite ton of money.
But the average Joe 10 years out of law school who runs his own firm and knows an ok amount of people? How much is he making per year?
Also, why is the number 8 use in all their phone numbers, what's the marketing behind that?

If you call Bart of McKernon, you aren't getting Bart or McKernon unless you potentially have a multi-million dollar settlement coming to you. You are going to get one of their just-out-of-law-school minions to work your case. Bart and McKernon get the biggest cut....law school kid gets a slice....you get the leftovers.
In short, if you hustle and build your empire, you're rich. If you are the one doing the actual case work, you aren't exactly making baller money.

Probably not that much.
Most of the billboard lawyers have a bunch of junior attorneys who do the actual work.

A lot of that is self-love and doesn't have anything to do with success. You can tell the ones who are single because they have the billboards that no wife would let them put up

Salaried associates receive a modest base pay but get a percentage cut e.g., 5% to 10% of every case they resolve or bring into the firm. A good year of settlements can easily double an associate's baseline salary.
Billboard lawyers function as business owners, and successful ones easily take home well over seven figures annually based on the sheer volume of cases their firms process. They all have Docs and Chiropractors on their payrolls for obvious reasons.

Speaking of billboards.....
What after happened to Dr. Platz? He drop dead or what? I'm sure he was good buddies with Bart, E. Eric, Sledge, and the rest back in the day.

They are fricking killing it.

They hire a bunch of junior associates and they don’t make as much as you would think.

I'm out of that area because of the consolidation. You're either in a huge advertising firm, running on fumes from legacy clients/referrals, or you're out.
But, with the changes, lots at the top will make a lot and the ones grinding at the bottom probably aren't making much. The "middle class" is being removed from car accident PI.

There are a couple big name ones (that you obviously know) who are multi millionaires.
Then there a couple guys who are basically broke who put all money into those billboards hoping for a big case.

Actually, the people who run your case are former insurance adjusters hired by these firms. They’re the ones who mostly deal with the clients. The lawyers essentially do whatever court hearings are needed and conduct the depositions, if needed.

Lawyer salaries are such a mystery. When you look up the median it says like $150k, but all the lawyers I know seem to be making a lot of money based on lifestyle. So maybe I only know the high earning lawyers or everyone is in debt?

Way, way less than they wanted to when going to law school sounded like a great idea.
For 90% of the lawyers who actually do the work at the billboard firms, no--it is not all that lucrative. The ones who do well (other than the owners and major partners) are the guys who put in 2,200+ hours a year, which is something not many lawyers are willing or able to do.

He died. Wife took over. Let’s just say, she doesn’t have a business mind. And it’s Plantz.

I believe Tort Reform in Texas hurt a lot of their salaries and thinned the herd a bit there. A attorney friend of mine there told me after it was passed, most medical malpractice claims weren’t worth the effort. I use to rent an office to an attorney in Beaumont that could rarely afford his monthly rent.

Most portray like they are doing very well. It’s not true and live above their means. 4 laws schools cranking out lawyers in a low population low income State. The competition is extreme.
Some do well obviously for various reasons. Father started the firm, they take the cheesy PI billboard route, etc.
Side note: The best PI lawyers are the ones that aren’t billboard ones. They don’t have to advertise.

I know of one Gordon client who has gotten in at least four car wrecks over the last decade and she has sued every time.
