This thread is exactly why i don't want to do student loans. I've got people at work telling me to take out loans and go to school full time instead of part and pay off the difference in my bills with loan money.

I can't fathom having $200k in student loans. Hell, my house is barely that much

i appreciate that answer.

i paid my own way through and it's a struggle when you have friends living up the high life, running up a CC bill knowing mom and dad would pay for it while i skipped meals, days at a time.

but $0.00 is my answer.

0. Tops covered most of undergrad, my savings account covered the rest. Worked full time through grad school and paid it in cash when it was due. Paying wife's professional school in cash now. Feel very fortunate compared to her classmates, who all have 100k+ in loans.

Zero. Charity Hospital School of Nursing was tuition-free. I worked when I took prerequisites and paid the tuition up front.

Have 51,000 left. Started with close to 90K. Was able to refi in early 2000s to 2.25% so not bad on the interest part.

$0

I figured out how much it was going to cost to get my degree and saved up before starting school, while I worked part time waiting tables and teching at the hospital the last 4 years. I'll graduate with a nursing degree in December debt free.

I cannot image running up 200K plus for an undergraduate degree. I lived with family, had tops, and worked part time. I did not have a new car or went out a lot. What TOPS did not pay, I worked to pay off. I finished with $0 in 2003.
