$2.50 for a regular yard, $5.00 for a large yard. Brother and I split it.

Yep. But we cut several of the neighbors yards. Parents didn't pay me anything.
Used to get 4-5 cents a bale hauling hay. That was hellacious work.

Mowing the yard and taking out the garbage were my chores.
No pay expected or given.

$20, I had a old guy that paid me $5/hr. It took me 4 hours on his riding mower and I had to provide the gas. I did it for about 2 months and he refused to negotiate, so since I had committed to I did it for as long as I could tolerate. I finally got fed up when he decided that I had to cut a smaller patio yard that wasn’t part of the original deal. He couldn’t understand that I got i tired of shoveling his 2 German Shepard dog shite as well.
I did better cutting multiple yards than cutting his one damn 4 acre lot.

Room and board at Home and at pawpaws house. I had no neighbors to exploit.

My dad had me cutting the lawn at 5. He disabled the safety features of the lawn mower and I cut my finger tips off when I tried to lift it off a root. Got a year off from cutting the lawn after that.
I was the first generation not to live on a farm and went to a family reunion a couple of years later, all of my great uncles showed me the finger tips and thumbs they lost in farming accidents.

My grandfather had about a 3 acre yard, and a John Deere 68 rear engine rider to mow it, and at one time the mower had a pair of vice grips for a steering wheel And no reverse.

I got to eat dinner when I cut my grass. It was glorious.
