Won a contest at LSU one year. Did 42 pull ups in a row. Can probably do 7 now.

Almost none.
I run to stay in shape.
I have no interest in keeping up my upper body as I am not trying to attract women anymore.
I am already married and this wife has laid claim to half my stuff for the rest of my life.
No women is hot enough for me to go down to 25% of my net worth.

here to say that if a man has trouble doing 15-20 pull-ups then that’s really sad.

Shouldn’t we do some strength training as we age due to muscle lost over time?

Orthopedic surgeons everywhere approve of that method.

I've been doing them daily for almost a year and I might be able to do 15 from a dead hang with ok form. Even in my military days I had trouble doing 10. Are you thinking of chin-ups?

I hear ya but to be honest I see LOTS of people at the park really half assing their way through pulls up and barely go down. They can bang out plenty of weak arse “pull ups”. Same with some pathetic push ups

Brian Shaw, 4-times World's Strongest Man, can do 6

“Not enough” is always the appropriate answer.

About a dozen. But I'm pretty old.
