That has me thinking, why were the boomer dads telling their generation X kids that if they got a girl pregnant they had to marry her? That's one thing my dad always harped on when I was a teenager with me and my brother and the families we hung out with and I thought he was dumb and come to find out 10 years later I was right.
It was meant to discourage unprotected premarital sex, not to encourage marriage.

I wanted to get married. And all my immediate friend group did as well and nearly or around 40.

I know of some co workers who did as you described.

A great wife is something special and glad I have an amazing one.

Got married while still in college. I was 21 and she was 20. Wanted to. She wasn't pregnant, it was another 7 years before we had our first kid. Everyone said you're too young, why do you want to do this? It won't work out.

Well, here we are over 32 years later. To many fricking know it all bitches in this world. Do your thing and don't listen to these idiots.

My sister (no pics) met her husband online. This was before online dating was a thing. They met on a gaming site-they're both a bit nerdy. He was in the Navy overseas and it was a long distance relationship for ten months before getting together. The first time they met in person he gave ger a ring. They were married three months later and have been together nearly thirty years.

I started dating my wife when I was still 16. I married her because I wanted to. I was 23 years old. We had four babies before we turned 30. Today, I'm 63 and on vacation with my wife and 25 others including our children, their spouses, and our grandchildren. It's been great

You are blessed. Those of us that ended up with an insane one wanted what you have but 50% of the time or more it just doesnt work out that way. I didnt know she was insane when we married but soon found out. Envious of the good outcomes on here.

Very lucky. I basically picked her when I was 17 and 18 and didn’t know anything.

An older neighbor said that he and his wife fell in love writing letters to each other when he was in the Navy during Vietnam. I guess some people feel like they get to know each other better using words over distance.

A gaming site in the 90s?? That's not a bit nerdy, that's them hooking up via CompuServe or Prodigy. I almost said a BBS, but nobody here would know what that meant.

I got married 3 times because I actually loved and expected to spend the rest of my life with them. 1st one high school sweethearts but deployed all the time, she had enough. No hard feelings and we are both in better places. 2 was what I’d call a blind love mistake. 3. Gave me my daughter so her crazy BS gets a pass.

I think you just validated OP’s point.

Bob Ross always said there were only happy accidents. People try and rationalize poor decisions in the past and work with the canvas they locked themselves into.

So let’s go easy here…

I got married at 22, after dating for 3 years. We stayed married for 12 years before getting divorced right before year 13.
I am happy for the marriage because of our three kids. If it wasn’t for them, the marriage could go down the chute.

I met my wife when I was 20 and married her 10 months later.

I found a woman that was incredibly beautiful, way better looking than me, has an amazing personality, can cook like you can’t imagine and thought I was the greatest thing in the world.

We’ve been married for 33 years and I can remember the last time we had a cross word. She is a joy to be around all these years later.

Yes, I actually wanted to get married and I’d do it all over again.
