Don't worry... You'd never be found fit to serve with your addictions

We have enough volunteers now that we will probably never need the draft again. Future wars will probably be fairly limited and not require millions of servicemen

I don't know. I filled out the card and gave it to a government employee. This was before computers were common, and who knows what records were kept, and lost.

I did what I was supposed to do.

If you are unsure of your status, you can verify on the .gov website... https://www.sss.gov/verify/proof/

Required information:
Last name
Social Security Number
Date of Birth

It'll match your record, show you your registration #, and give you the option to print an acknowledgement letter.
Takes less than a minute.

As I recall, this program was started back up in 1979, probably because of the unrest with Iran, and Jimmy Carter not really making any headway negotiating a release of the hostages. And yes, I registered as required.

Who remembers recruiters calling your house when you were a senior asking if you wanted to join the armed forces?

Yeah. It pretty much sounds like entrapment. They have all your information, so it's not like it would be hard to find you.

Just trying to collect some fines.

Same thing I've told my daughters... I will not OK a marriage to someone that hasn't signed up.
1) How will you know?

2) They will marry them anyway just to spite you.

I never had to sign up. When I turned 18, they had suspended registrations and when they resumed registrations, it was for men born on or after 1/1/1960; I was already too old.

Same, I fell in the gap between suspension after Vietnam and resumption several years later. There was a gap between 1975 and 1980.

I have no memory of doing it, but I’m sure I did. I was probably just really stoned.

We signed up in high school. Guidance counselor passed out the paperwork to all senior boys.
