Like everyone else I signed up at the post office shortly after turning 18.

We were told it was required to qualify for student loans, so just about everyone did.

It needs to go away, there is not a valid reason to have non volunteer army.

I never had to sign up. When I turned 18, they had suspended registrations and when they resumed registrations, it was for men born on or after 1/1/1960; I was already too old.

From the Selective Service website

In Louisiana when an 18-25 year old applies for a drivers license or when they get their permits at younger age they’re automatically signed up
My two sons got letters from selective service in the mail not long after turning 18
Both have been driving since 16

I didn't sign up because even though I have a penis and testicles, I identify as a woman so I don't have to.

Signed, every nation that has ever began a war with a purely volunteer force.

You know, I know I grew up in a different time period, but in all honesty, there were 3 things I wanted most to do when I turned 18, one was to register to vote, the other was to sign up for the draft, and the other order a drink in a bar, all of which I did almost immediately after my birthday. It’s not that I was thrilled to get called up to go to war mind you, but that it finally identified me as an adult. The greatest of these turned out to be registering to vote as a Republican and cast my vote for the one and only Ronald Reagan for president. I still take pride in that it was the first vote I cast as a voting American.

Not a chance I wasn’t signing up. I was not missing out on my free foot long from Subway.

I thought males were signed up automatically when they registered to vote.

We had to register to vote downtown at the registrars office, and for the draft at the post office.

who cares its pointless. only reason anyone does is because its easier than dealing with the penalties

Conscription happens over and over throughout history and it will happen again.
Really can't do it for proxy wars, nation building, and/or GWOT related activity because it would generate poor morale. If another major global event occurs that society sees as a true threat, the draft will come back.

Also, an All Volunteer force (Total Force concept) is potentially unsustainable in terms of longterm budget management.

If the dollar collapses and is repudiated as the world reserve currency (very plausible), our government will begin to have the same problems that normal citizens are facing in terms of inflation and not being able to afford shite.

Service Members deserve the benefits they receive but those benefits are really expensive.

Currently, our government is poor and in debt but spending like it is the economic mack daddy it was in the mid to late 20th century

When my son was filling out his FASFA for college it had a check box, they signed him up for selective service when he turned 18 and all he had to do was check that box. His card came in the mail shortly after he turned 18.

i don't remember which one i went to sign up for first, but whichever one it was, they offered to sign me up for the other one at that time as well, so 2 birds with one stone.

I might be mistaken, but i thought you had to be signed up for the selective service before you can sign up to vote.

I think a little basic training would do a lot of good to many here. Enact the draft. Time to shape it up, Kids.
