I have two right now in daycare. $615 per week for both!

Yeah you are about right. Four we could swing I think but it would be super tight.

I'm in the process of putting two children through a private, Catholic school, now. My wife and I make a modest income, so it can be a bit of a strain.

Like you, I value my children learning about religion and making friends with good kids from strong families. The teachers at their school are the absolute best.

It's a worthwhile investment, in my view, but it eats a good portion of my pay.

What are they getting out of Catholic school at 8 and 10 weeks?

Imagine living somewhere that you fear sending your kid to public schools

They are getting out of the house so the wife & I can tend to our full-time jobs. They also jump ahead of the wait list for pre-K since they will already be enrolled at the school.

Costs were comparable to the nurseries around us. Only difference is you pay for the year upfront as opposed to monthly like the nurseries.

And this right here is the problem, no one has any idea of responsibility anymore.

Four - last one graduating from Catholic School this year. The feeling on our finances has been interesting though because we cash flowed the primary and secondary education and had 529's for higher education, so it was almost like getting a raise when they graduated high school. I don't like to add those numbers up, lol. My wife and I have been fortunate to be able to provide this for them and they did their part in high school to earn nice scholarships in college.

I bet you must be filled with pride. Congrats.

One day I hope to be in your position but I don’t want to rush the sweetness of the memories.

We practice NFP

I went To Catholic school and my religion teacher who taught us about NFP had to start selling real estate because he had so many kids.

It’s 100% effective because if you get pregnant that’s what G-d wants and this it’s considered a success.

Good luck with NFP! I’d budget for another kid or two to be on the safe side.

Had three in private Catholic elementary school. Started running the numbers and I just didn’t make enough to send them to highschool within the same system. We made a drastic decision to uproot and move out of state to an area with highly rated public schools and couldn’t be happier.

3. All Classical Christian educated. Yes it's expensive BUT you can't afford not to.

I too am Catholic but don't get caught up in denomination. The smaller the school the better.

None. My wife is an iron lady. We had our first, while I was in college and she was a Nurse. She arranged her sick leave and vacation, for the birthing. never missed a pay check. She worked nights, and I took care of our son the first six months. Then I graduated.
After college we arranged our work schedule around a sitter, (next door neighbors teenage daughter) then later, The YMCA.
One Son is now an Electrical Engineer the other, Computer science.
Oldest Grandson is now a freshman at University of Alabama, full scholarship in Computer Science.
Not bad for a son of a "Sharecropper" from "Jigger" Fort Necessity High School, in North Louisiana.
I've been blessed.

PS. Neither of our Sons owed a dime when they graduated college.
They have been employed continuously since their graduation.

Then I retired at age 56.

Paid private non-Catholic elementary for 3 kids, then Catholic HS for 2 of them. Spent about $550,000 total.

2 through daycare and private preschool.

I live where I do because I can get equity out of a house but not out of a private school education.

Getting ready to start with my first.

The cost of private school is outrageous. This is the only non Catholic private school near me.

It was a huge factor in moving away from LA. It is utterly stupid that we would have spent more than a million on 4 high school diplomas, so for that and many other reasons we moved. Save on taxes and insurance as well. I know successful people and f-ups that went through good schools and bad, private and public. I went to both and the public was far superior, I'm sure other cases vary. It comes down more to individuals - specifically the parents, students, and teachers - than it does systems or institutions when it comes to successful outcomes, in my opinion.
