Group texts with my Louisiana folks are starting to buzz with plans for Mardi Gras parades.

Just cannot imagine at 30+ years old taking the wife and kids to stand on the streets with loud arse music, next to drunk idiots, to stand there while other drunk idiots throw things at you.

Was it fun as a single 20 year old college kid? Sure.

At this point in life, I would have to be paid to attend a parade

its not my thing but my wife likes it...not parades though really, too much riff raff

but i know lots of very high IQ and net worth individuals that like it.

to me...its way too much of a pain in the arse overall to deal with to enjoy it.

You take your kids because as a kid you had fun at the parades and they will too.

I mean why do anything with your kids? You sound like a fun dad.

You start this thread every year and want to comment on the intelligence of other people?

I've never been to a kids birthday party that didn't serve alcohol.

If you can’t have fun at a parade you’re a lame arse mother fricker. There are spots all along parade route to stand and not be around “loud arse music” and “drunk idiots.”

I say that as someone who hates people and crowds.

I am at the same place, but why you think this is an IQ issue is truly puzzling.

So you just go around telling everyone, without being prompted, about how much you hate when other people enjoy things? You sound like a delight!

You give my kids a choice between Mardi Gras and Disney and they'll choose Mardi Gras every time.

Also you do realize that Mardi Gras uptown is different than 20 yr old college student french quarter Mardi Gras, correct?

Once I turned 18 years old and at that time - legal drinking age, there was no need to go to mardi gras.

I don't fricking get it - frick a parade.

A great parade is having a house on the route

Otherwise it’s a total pain to me

You can't go to a party with alcohol and not get trashed?

Sounds like you lack self discipline.

Sad.

In college, Mardi Gras is one of my fondest memories with my Best Friend. Love being in New Orleans during this time when I was younger.
My daughter has taken over my love for the City and can’t wait to go with all her New Orleans friends from College. At least she has a place to stay. We went down not knowing where we would end up. Times are different for sure.

You and me both. Mardi Gras is the one time of the year I don't get worked up about crowds and people. Just go with the flow and have fun. It's not rocket science.

Mardi Gras was fun until I hit 30. Then I got tired of it. Old people who still go all out or spend $$$ to ride floats creep me out.
