Gen Z keeps confounding Corporate America. They’ve shunned beer, they want companies to take political stands and they trust Kardashians to make their makeup choices. But perhaps the biggest surprise about this new cohort of teenagers is the most unexpected of all: They love the shopping mall.
Around 95 percent of them visited a physical shopping center in a three-month period in 2018, as opposed to just 75 percent of millennials and 58 percent of Gen X, according to an International Council of Shopping Centers study. And they genuinely like it; three-quarters of them said going to a brick-and-mortar store was a better experience than online, ICSC found.

Clearly they have not been there in a while. While it might not be as lucrative as it once was, The Mall of LA does not appear to be in decline at all.
One of the stranger phenomenon on this board are the biannual threads where people feel the need to indulge themselves by grossly exaggerating the depreciation of the MoL.

Is Perkins Rowe still a thing? I don’t hear about it nearly as much as I used to.

I went a few weeks ago and it’s easily 60% shoe stores and the middle easterners peddling the costume jewelry from their little kiosk were every fricking where.
Shoe stores + costume jewelry = that bitch gone downhill bud.

there is no new mall yet so I would say the mall will be fine for the time being.
Perkins Rowe and Town Center are the new competition.

I have been there recently and I can tell you that it isn't nearly as bad as everyone has made it out to be. It is probably more indicative of the struggle of retail stores and malls specifically in the Wal-Mart pickup mentality than it is an overrun of undesirables. I haven't had any issues when I bring my children or fear for my life during the night or day.
the mall isn't terrible. But, the bottom floor is slightly better than a flea market. Also, 90% of stores sell shoes.

I haven't been to PR in some time. It seems like most physical retailers are struggling

Yes. Is it a big deal? I cannot tell you. But, it is existing and competing against the MoL.

I though so to until I went to the Aventura Mall north of Miami last week. Place was slam packed on a Wednesday night. Exotic cars everywhere. Women, lawd have mercy.

Here's a tip: don't go to the mall - any mall - on a Saturday. That's been the rule since indoor malls were invented.

I watch movies in PR.
I haven’t seen a movie in MoL in over 5 years.

Probably because "Gen Z" and millennials are too poor to have credit/debit cards to shop online.

Exactly this... Mall of La has been terrible for a while now.. Wife and I went about a month ago bc she had a VS gift card to use and we couldn't get out of there fast enough..
Hoodrat Daycare is the best description I got for it..

Yeah the Mall of Louisiana is basically a mosque now. Where did they all come from?
Well, BR has a high number of Lebanese people the reside within the city so there’s that. Similar to the Vietnamese population that you see in pockets around Broadmoor and Florida Boulevard and any given Saturday at the Costco on Airline.

You get all of that out of a simple, logical question, yet you tell him he needs an evaluation?
Absolutely.

That mall isn't bad at all although it has lost some of its nicer stores. That's just a symptom of the decline in retail.
I agree with this. Went a few weeks ago on a Saturday for the first time in about 10 years and it didn't really seem much different minus a few nicer stores. The tales on here of its demise were greatly exaggerated.
Malls everywhere are struggling - except for Lakeside.

Let's see....I'd say around 7:30 PM.

Malls in this area are like control structures along the Miss River: You build one with the understanding you'll eventually have to build another one a little further away....
