I have been there recently and I can tell you that it isn't nearly as bad as everyone has made it out to be. It is probably more indicative of the struggle of retail stores and malls specifically in the Wal-Mart pickup mentality than it is an overrun of undesirables. I haven't had any issues when I bring my children or fear for my life during the night or day.

Interior of the mall is in BR. Some or all of the anchors are in StG.
I thought it was just the opposite? I could be wrong

It won't unless a new mall opens up.

Either way it is a complete clusterfrick which made a bigger point of why the incorporation lines for BR are such a shite show.

Well, the problems that plagued cortana have migrated over to the mall of Louisiana. It was apparent shortly after it was built that this would be a problem. But now it’s become so bad that it’s fate is likely sealed. The problems have also made their way to juban crossing. However, juban crossing is an outdoor mall. Should stop a lot of the loitering.
Most stores in the outdoor section of the mall have closed. You know it's the beginning of the end when the only thing that's left are athletic shoe stores, wig stores, and "urban" clothing stores. Lots of loitering going on with not much shopping. Also, it appears that Perkins Rowe is struggling as well. Several stores have closed down.

To be honest, I haven't set foot in the Mall of Louisiana since about 2005. My wife (no pics) and I went there all of the time circa 1999-2000. They had some great stores in there then, like Learning Smiths, World of Science, Spencers, the bookstore, music store, and some kind of place that sold Louisiana themed stuff. It was great. The only things I know about it now is what I read here and see on the news when something bad happens.
The only mall I've seen doing decent in recent years is Lakeside over the Causeway. Cortana has long been dead. The Slidell and Hammond malls are dead. It seems like that only one mall can survive for every 500,000-1,000,000 people or so. Maybe even more than that. You figure 330 million people equals 330-660 viable malls in the country, meaning 6 to 12 malls, on average, per state, if spread out enough, could survive.

Perkins Rowe never had any real stores there for shopping to begin with.

I am sure you are hoping it will end up that way as soon as possible. People like you that start these counterproductive threads need psychological evaluations. Are you hoping BR and the whole region go to shite except around your little hovel?

went one saturday with the family. We have 2 toddlers. They were scared to death at all the ripping and screaming going on in the common areas. It smelled like cigar/cigarette smoke and B.o. We won't ever go back unless we absolutely have to.

I recently walked thru the mall of la around noon on a monday. The parking lots were pretty full. The crowd wasn't bad at all. Frankly I was pleasantly surprised and happy it hasn't turned to shite. It was actually kind of nice.

You get all of that out of a simple, logical question, yet you tell him he needs an evaluation?

sooner rather than later - retail is having to shift. Perkins Rowe type stuff should do fine and stuff with more upscale stores or neighborhood stuff with restaurants, fitness type stuff.
Basically "retail" that you can't buy on amazon OR retailers which area also selling some sort of shopping experience.

I guess that it is possible that there may come a time where people will decide they would rather shop for things in person than online. Hell, like someone posted earlier, vinyl record sales beat out CD's for the first time since the 80's. That's not saying much since most people get their music online, but it shows that generations shift in tastes. Perhaps in 20 or 30 years there will be some kind of mall revival. It won't reach 1980's levels of popularity, but could make a decent comeback.

Yeah the Mall of Louisiana is basically a mosque now. Where did they all come from?

Eliminate (remove) the public bus stops around the MOLA.

I eat lunch in the food court a few times a month. That mall isn't bad at all although it has lost some of its nicer stores. That's just a symptom of the decline in retail. That area is fine.

It just meant that the amount of people buying CD's has dropped to almost zero

I've never noticed this. Is it at night? I can't remember the last time I've been in there after dark.
