I always wait until the last group. Only reason to board early is if you're flying 1st class and you can start drinking.

This doesn't really apply to Southwest. There you have a numbered spot and know exactly where to stand so there's no reason to run up there too early.
Yet people still do.
People really suck.

I always wait to get on the plane last. I don't have to wait in line next to someone who hasn't showered in days on the plane and I go straight to my seat.

assigned seating, shite im at the bar drinking a beer and will be last on

On United there are some flights that only have lines for groups one and two after that it is a straight up cattle call. These airlines are flying smaller jets now for travel around the states. Even boarding in group 2 doesn’t mean you will have room for your carry on near where you are seated. As mentioned by a earlier post having to bring your carry on to the back of the plane then go to your seat toward the front is a PITA both at boarding and unboarding Yeah I know big deal but if you travel quite a bit it is the little things that make the trip better.

The carry-on topic is true, but people still so it regardless.
Like when the plane lands and the seat belt sign comes off, people feel the need to stand 5 minutes before the plane door actually opens.
It's this anxious herd like mentality that causes it.

Yeah this is just as annoying.
There is a procedure, it goes row by row, not whoever crowds the aisle first. I should have been british, I love rules and queues and hate "Oh I'm gonna get mine!" people
Of course, most of these annoyances can be avoided by paying more.

IF I have a carry on, it’s a backpack and I just put it under the seat in front of me for however long I have to during takeoff and landing. Otherwise it’s out in my space.

Wait until you get to Spain. People line up before your plane even arrives. It’s fricking bizarre. Don’t panic. There’s no reason for it.
Anyway, I’ll get up when the group before mine is called if I have carry on concerns. Otherwise, I get up when my group is called.
For those of you who wait for the final boarding call, frick you. There is only a “final call” because they are waiting for your dumb arse. Had everyone boarded, they would just close he door and get everyone on their way. Don’t be a dick.

people should be charged for carry on, and make check in free
Couldn't agree more.

It's assigned seating
Kinda pointless to stand in line then.

the only reason is if you have a carryon bag and don't want to end up being forced to either check it or have it placed 20 rows behind you
This is the main reason I get in line early.

Some people like standing. You will be sitting for next few hours anyway

Do you realize how many people, and how much very expensive machinery, is required for a checked bag?
People are absurd and abuse it, but encouraging people to check more bags isn’t the way
Airlines like Ryanair are a middle ground. You get one personal item. Want a full sized carry on? You pay for it (but less than a checked bag). Carry on us overweight? Costs more. Want more personal items? Fee for that, too.

Yeah, I thought about that after I posted.
Airlines should just enforce their carry-on rules more stringently. Limit to one item, and charge more after that. But then you run into an issue with women and their purses, so it can get thorny.

Those people are the worst. I got stuck in DFW one night because my flight was running behind and I had 15 minutes to catch my connection. The attendants made an announcement to stay seating and only stand up and get off if you have a tight connection window.
Of course, everyone stands up and I miss my flight.

I hope the US gets more low end competition which will leave full fare Delta/etc. for the rest of us.
Spirit and the like have helped, but we need more IMO.
