Consolidation is only suited for smaller rural areas where small towns that cannot afford their own resources can combine revenue streams to do so. Large metro areas doing this only become overly bloated bureaucracies that only end up representing the special interests and not the entire metro area they were set up for. The best government is local government at the smallest scale possible

I’m actually pro St. George but against the deconsolidation of the City-Parish Government.

There’s a great deal of cost-savings benefit to more centralized services in Public Works, Libraries, Transit, etc.
We completely disagree.

and ow long before LSU and every other business asks to be annexed to st George.

South Baton Rouge (within city) should begin researching the legal requirements to de-annex from Baton Rouge. Then they would be able to request annexation into St. George.

I agree and for the most part SG won’t interfere with most of that.

At the end of the day with a successful SG, we will have a parish wide library, park, sewer, mosquito, EMS and mass transportation system just as we do now.

If that happens, THEN Together BR would be correct in claiming that people are leaving.

tell you the truth, while St. George is on the papers for the new City as the ire department guys had to have something to put on the form, It might do the new City a favor to make the name of the new city something different like South Baton Rouge or something. I believe some people within the City are partial to the name, and would be more likely to want the annexation if it had more of a real Louisiana name.

The process is exactly the same as annexation. Petition, then go to the MetCo for approval

Lawsuit complaints are already typed, signed, and dated. Just waiting for the EBR district court to open on Monday to file.

Unfortunately, the city of “New School District” wasn’t a possibility.

They annexed the South Campus and a lot of acreage to connect the Casino to BR.

This. There apparently wasn't a ditch to annex all the way....

They could have annexed all those people they want to be "better together" with.
But wait, they actually don't want to provide those people with services. They just want those tasty tax dollars.

I understand his point and the point is generally valid. But economies of scale do exist, even in government. And I contend that a strong St. George will grow the conservative voting bloc in EBR. Allowing for a new Mayor-President that does their part to end the bloating of unneeded, overtaxed, and excessive spending/services.

The "Better Together" mantra is dumb and I can't stand the shady tactics being used by Together BR, etc. But if St. George takes their ball and goes home then all you do is accelerate the decline of Baton Rouge proper, and ultimately St. George as well.

I think I saw a memo today talking about having to raise taxes in BR by 18% to cover the loss of StG taxes.
