I think I saw a memo today talking about having to raise taxes in BR by 18% to cover the loss of StG taxes.

All of the Baton Rouge cops are pissed about St. George. Every single one that I know who is angry about it lives in Livingston Parish

The "Better Together" mantra is dumb and I can't stand the shady tactics being used by Together BR, etc. But if St. George takes their ball and goes home then all you do is accelerate the decline of Baton Rouge proper, and ultimately St. George as well.

This
SG will never thrive unless the parish thrives and the parish won’t thrive if BR decays.

SG can help improve the parish but SG can’t carry the load.

This requires BR to get off its arse and do something other than get catered lunches.

They had no inclination to rock the boat while they had the St George money covering their freight with BRPD and BRFD. They may be more motivated to try something new if they are no longer in a comfortable position.

They may not be living there much longer.

I have a feeling that SWB pushes for a residency requirement for officers and new hires. The kind of thing which has worked SO well for NOPD.

Won't happen...she'll lose most of the police force and she knows it.

Sounds an awful lot like the thread on the guy’s aunt and cousin.

His cousin is BR, his aunt is TBR who will ask why he cut off contact with his cousin, not addressing that his cousin is a frickup who keeps burning bridges.

They tried that after the Alton Sterling debacle. Fell flat on its face. They can't rustle up enough qualified people for an academy when they allow anyone in the country. You think shrinking that down to the city of Baton Rouge is going to help? They might get 5 people to apply

I understand his point and the point is generally valid. But economies of scale do exist, even in government. And I contend that a strong St. George will grow the conservative voting bloc in EBR. Allowing for a new Mayor-President that does their part to end the bloating of unneeded, overtaxed, and excessive spending/services.

I agree with what you’re saying, and I wish that conservative people were more interested in ultimately saving the cities their grandparents lived in/forefathers built.

It’s fine to do what’s best for your family. It’s fine for an area to incorporate.

But are we really giving up on Baton Rouge completely? I don’t think we should, for lots of reasons. Deconsolidating seems like a step in that direction and an overreaction to a stupid mayor.

I hope the "Together Baton Rouge" group disbands now. Obviously they were ineffective and incompetent at best.

Hopefully folks inside BR and in the rest of the parish will demand better services from the mayor.

She’s been a terrible administrator, and her pet projects don’t seem to be inclusive.

She’s in charge of a huge sewer program, two road programs and upcoming drainage programs. Think about that. We are talking about 100s of thousands of tax dollars.

I think she’s pushing for minority set asides before they contract all the work in the road programs, the drainage programs, and etc.

That’s next imho.

That’s not what I said.

SG is not on its own, we still are in EBR and our quality of life still depends on how wrr err lol the parish as a whole functions.

We receive sewer, garbage, EMS, Sheriff, Library, Park and other services via parish wide entities. We can’t support all that by ourselves.

Citizens owe BR nothing.
In a free society, if the city provides shite services, you can leave. And as we've seen, this is true of EBR in the past 50 years.

If they squander their tax dollars and enrich themselves, why should anyone be required to support them?

the parrish will be fine. Do you think the area the StG residents wanted to get away from pay their way?

Hell no.
But the anti BR agenda some here present is bad.

SG is about improving the quality of life and using less govt. to do it, and not about pushing BR down so we can look better.

SG will continue to pay their fair share. We always have and then some.

The following might have already been asked or explained.

Prior to BR annexing the Mall of Louisiana, who received the sales taxes collected from the sales at each business?

Did BR receive any taxes prior to the annexation or only EBR Parish?

Was there distinct tax percentage going to EBR Parish prior and has that changed?

What I am wondering did BR take the sales tax revenue from the EBR Parish. If so, shouldn't everyone outside the city limits be upset?

What about the airport? Who receives the sales tax revenue or other fees that might be added?

I asked around the office and no one had any answers.
