but there was parking at the old garage, so technically speaking they had parking. Not sure what you are bitching about

That isn’t exactly next door, especially with all of the construction

It’s the overflow parking lot for the facility. Plan accordingly next time

I figured out another way. Man just boarded at last second. Took him an extra hour. Yeah, that is acceptable and totally normal . Pffftt

I fly out every week, have never once had an issue getting a spot in long term at the new garage.

Bizzare to here it is at capacity. I fly out usually Sunday/Monday though.

Many airports in the country don't have direct interstate access. I would argue in most places direct transit/rail access is more beneficial and economical than extending freeways directly to airports. Of course New Orleans has neither right now.

I just dealt with this same issue and nearly missed my flight because of it.

They need to have some type of electronic signage on the interstate that notifies people about parking availability in advance before wasting 10 minutes of their time driving to each garage only to learn that there is no space.

What holiday weekend is it?

There's a difference between being slammed on a holiday weekend and some random weekend in the middle of May.

Only once Have I seen both garages full and that was for Mardi Gras (shame on me for being dumb and not thinking about this before hand). That said, the open sports are definitely dwindling down. I normally fly out on Monday mornings.

They built the airport before they figured out the freeway exits and the parking.

Building an opening a terminal without valid access roads and enough in-site parking to handle a non holiday late spring weekend is the problem. It doesnt mean it's impossible to overcome but it's still a massive failure on par with this state and cities leadership.

As much as I would like to blame the Destroya this is on Mitch.

I’ll give you my spot when I leave there after my 11pm arrival tonight. Right by the terminal bridge from short term too.

Airport employees park in the parking garages thus the reason there are no spots available for consumers.

Airport employees park on 3 of the 5 floors of the old terminal’s short term parking garage adjacent to the economy lot and then take a bus to the new terminal on the north side. Since I’ve never seen the economy lot full I don’t see how this impacts customers.
The airport website is pretty accurate when checking the amount of spaces in each parking lot.

Edited to add that the new garages also have red and green lights installed on the ceiling and digital numbers that signify if the row you are trying to park on has any empty spaces, how many, and where they are. I find that helpful.

Half of the cars in the airport parking are stolen cars, abandoned. Why UBER when you can just carjack a ride to the airport?

The website gives an exact number of available parking spots for every garage at the new MSY. I ran into that problem one time and now I always check if I have to park in any of the overflow lots.
