How far out does a destination have to be for you to fly there instead of drive?

My wife and I are essentially middle class. We will fly to Louisiana, Chicago, etc; but we definitely aren’t flying someone that’s less than 5 hours away. I’m convinced the only people who fly from JFK to cities like Boston, Baltimore, DC, or Philly are either rich or really dumb and lazy (they can’t drive a car/no license).

Edit: Personal, not business trips.

Edit 2: Got some triggered people this afternoon

One mile further than Disney, Orlando.

ETA: about 10 hours.

7 hours is usually my cut off point. If it's less than that it's usually easier to drive. I hate the hassle of flying.

Used to do this flight all the time for work.

Usually though, anything over a 4-5 hour drive and I'm taking a plane. I don't enjoy road trips.

Using MSY (NOLA) as an example. DFW and further west is FLY, not DRIVE.

500 miles. So Baton Rouge to Atlanta, flying. Dallas, Austin and Houston to Baton Rouge, driving.

Depends on the destination.

Some destinations are not worth the extra money to fly then have to rent a car. Despite being more than my 6hr cutoff.

Springfield, Illinois is a example of this.

Also depends if I am by myself or having to pay multiple.

If it takes more than 8hrs, you're basically blowing one of your vacation days away with driving. More than that, you have to consider cost and lodging. The real factor, are your carrying anything that would be really expensive to fly with, and cost too much to buy where you're going? This would be guns, gear, etc. Have driven to Montana to go elk hunting, but there were 4 of us to share the driving and we all had guns, gear, and booze/food that we were bringing up. Also brought the meat back in ice chests on a trailer.

The farthest place I'll drive to is my private hangar.

Or they don't own a car like many people who live in NYC.
