One thing that's certain in life, you will become that "older dude" one day in the future. If he's getting the overall job done within a specified timeline, who cares how he goes about it if it's not costing the company money? Oh, an you're an arse for wanting to ruining a man's and his family's life.

We shouldnt subsidize work for a old dude. This is a private company, not US government. there is no handouts

Seems like a pretty dysfunctional group to me. The boss should have lines for open communication of all members. The group workers should be able to discuss productivity issues with other members or the boss without fear. Productivity should be rewarded. Lack of productivity should be addressed. The longer it festers, the worse it will get.

1) Maybe he takes 5x longer because his work output is never addressed.
2) Maybe he simply needs to be shown ways to improve his output.
3) Maybe the work should be reassigned within the group so that everyone benefits.
4) Maybe he needs to be terminated.

If am senior management over this group, I probably take everyone to the woodshed for creating this situation. It is bad for business.

In all seriousness, I think Ill come in early tomorrow and leave a note on my boss's desk letting him know as a team we have to reevaluate the team member.

Tis the season, marking my spot with some neutral ground painting.

The fact that you think you need to be the one to tell the boss this, and that he doesn’t already know says a lot about you.

Bringing that up to your boss will just make you look like a tube steak rather than a winner/go getter.
