I think the natural way a human being lives differs from the way a true faithful believer would live.

I agree that people are generally selfish, but true altruism does arise from all the selfishness due to the communal nature of our society.

I'd disagree that a true believer is demonstrating this natural altruism, though. Isn't the believer just looking out for what he believes is his own afterlife?

Meanwhile, my girlfriend is more or less a self-professed atheist, so I have learned how to deal with our spiritual/religious differences.

Hang on to her for dear life.

if you asked me all these questions, and I simply said "I don't know", would that make me lazy?

Because you can't. Bio-engineers agree that it's a theory.

Find new friends.

Seriously, we ALL need accountability people in our lives because of some of the stupid shite we try to pull. Sometimes, people don't like to be told they're acting like an idiot.

I hope you're trolling. I think you are. I refuse to believe there are still people pulling the wool over their eyes on evolution.

Maybe at first. But I don't think that type of selfishness works ultimately. I don't think a person can keep faith that way. If you look at the great Catholic saints, they are evangelizing and challenging themselves for a greater cause. They aren't just playing a game for the after life. It's hard to explain, but I do love the point you are making because of the mystery of it.

It's almost a paradox. The most selfish act is to get to the afterlife. Yet the most selfish people wouldn't work for that.

It reminds me of humility. The most humble people often receive what the most prideful people are looking for. Incredible praise.

Then you are stupid. There are plenty of people out there, including many far more intelligent and educated than you and I, that consider evolution a theory.

I'm not one of them, but still.

If the answer is I don't know, I would expect you to explore the idea, and if you aren't sure, the strongest thing you can say is that you are an agnostic. That is what Louis CK always says. How are all of these people so sure God doesn't exist? Seems pretty arrogant, considering how little we know about our universe.

By my calculations and considering the shorter lifespans, I'm thinking like 3500 years.

You're absolute right! Evolution is a Theory and anyone who says otherwise is blinded by atheist propaganda!

You don't know what "theory" in a scientific context means, do you?

OK you're definitely trolling. Can't believe I took the bait

Absolutely. Most atheist do not deny that is a possibility.

The problem with first mover is who created god? you come back to the same answer an atheist has - no one/always has existed.

this is not what **most** atheist believe though.

Do you believe go exists?

YES - Theist
No - Atheist
I dunno - Atheist

Most atheists are in the I dunno category.

Yes. But God outside of our rules could have always existed. We live in a universe that only contains things with beginnings and ends. It would take something outside of the laws of our universe to create our universe. Just like it takes a person in a 3D world to draw on a 2D piece of paper.
