Nice, but my understanding was that the dinosaurs died out shortly after leaving the ark. I don't think they were still here when Jesus was around.

Most atheists are in the I dunno category.

The I dunno category is agnosticism. Much less arrogant, and in my opinion a lot more questioning.

But God outside of our rules could have always existed. We live in a universe that only contains things with beginnings and ends. It would take something outside of the laws of our universe to create our universe. Just like it takes a person in a 3D world to draw on a 2D piece of paper.

See I find it much lazier to just plug "God" into the unknown

We don't know the answer, so lets just say God did it. Done.

That is what triggers my belief. But the actual teachings, miracles, and much more are what root my faith. I won't get into that here because I'm hoping this thread won't be whacked.

You can call that lazy. But I think it can be argued that what I am describing is required of the universe. There must be a First Mover. Now, let's call that God. But the definition of what God is or has to be is MUCH more difficult.

That is fine. I have no idea how the universe was formed. I think it is more likely that it has always existed in some form and just keeps exploding outwardly, then imploding over and over again rather than an omnipresent being creating it.

I respect that. But I don't understand how the universe has always existed when everything else in the universe was created. The universe plays by the universe's rules.

My belief is that God orchestrated the Big Bang, and from there the universe was made. He didn't tap it with his fingers or do anything we could even explain. But he started it.

Thst said, good talk. And I'm glad it was civil.

Not really. You have two categories to judge people

Theist vs. Atheist - belief
Gnostic vs. Agnostic - how sure you are

You have gnostic theists (there is a god, I know for sure), agnostic theists (there is a god, but dont know for sure), gnostic atheist (there is no god, i know for sure), agnostic atheist (I don't actively believe but I really don't know).

The problem with first mover is who created god? you come back to the same answer an atheist has - no one/always has existed

THis is all Ill say. You say "problem" as if its an actual problem. No thats YOUR problem. Just because an atheist or human doesnt understand it, doesnt mean its not true. Just because logic doesnt allow it, doesnt mean its not true. If God is this all knowing being, then he created the very logic you use, and everything he is is beyond your possible understanding no matter how smart you think you are. Its stupid and arrogant to think a simple human thats practically a tiny tiny spec on the radar of human history can act like they know the truth about something so very large and all-encompassing. God may not follow from HUMAN logic. Look at the vastness of space, and how much of that space has any human been to? Not even a measurable fraction of it.

But aren't you the one that is describing what is happening? Saying god exists, and made the universe.

My answer I don't know. This IMHO is a much less arrogant position. I really don't know

You are conflating knowledge and belief. Gnosticism relates to knowledge. Theism relates to belief.

I am not a fan of labels but I consider myself an agnostic atheist meaning I do not know if god(s) exist but I do not believe he (they) exists.

Most folks, theist and atheist alike, are in the agnostic camp in that respect as we do not know whether god(s) exist. Thus, you would be an agnostic theist.

Okay. I will use your terminology and not that of college philosophy professors I know. That aside, what you call a gnostic atheist is almost always a complete douchebag in my experience, and is the main population of r/atheism and any other online community of atheists.

He is not of this universe. Just like the maker of Monopoly doesn't have to live his life by the rules of Monopoly.
