In my opinion, the God question is one that everyone should ponder at one point or another. It is interesting enough that every civilization since the beginning of time has had believers. Basic cause and effect would have a person wondering how we got here. What came before us? What came before the Big Bang if you believe it. Now there are tons of philosophical and theological conversations to be had, but when people say they don't believe in God because Christians seem fake, or whatever reason that really has nothing to do with the existence of God, I am not a fan.
It is my belief that many people choose not to believe in God because they don't want to deal with the ramifications of there in fact being a God. Now, let me make it clear, that I don't believe this applies to all atheists. Not even close. But there are many people who choose to be atheist because it is cool or they don't want to be like those silly Christians. Well I am a theist, and I too don't want to be like those silly Christians they are referring to. I am a Christian, but I roll my eyes just as much as any atheist when I read the news or drive by the ridiculous church signs.

I have a friend my age who was just ordained as a Catholic deacon. 
He's a cool guy so we always end up having good conversations (though he always wants me to get more involved with church stuff).

I agree with that. I like having my views challenged.
I think more people should endeavor to challenge their views... the echo chambers are becoming a real problem with today's society. Maybe instead of demonizing people who differed in their views you'd come to understand them and reconsider your own as well.

I have a friend my age who was just ordained as a Catholic deacon.
I haven't talked to him much since high school but that's more because of geography than idealistic differences.

I tend to agree with this. If I disliked someone for having different views than me on certain topics of "morality" I would hate 99% of my family. But I love 99% of my family instead because we rarely, if ever, discuss such topics and if we do, it's in a respectable manner.

its my belief that those who believe in god often can't handle what it means there is no god. Aka when you die, you die.
I do agree atheists that are atheists b.c they see shitty Christians is a terrible reason. But I have never met someone like that. Not to say they don't exist, but I have never met one.

I get rid of them as friends. At this point in my life I only want to be around people who see the world the same way I do. I don't fricking care enough about the rest of them.

I was raised in the church and have no ill will towards anyone in said church and actually have quite a few fond memories from that time in my life. I just don't believe any of that shite they taught me

It goes further than just "being jerks to people."
I think most people are very selfish naturally. And I think people believe what they live. This also goes for theists. They change the definition of God or their religion in order to be considered good. I think the natural way a human being lives differs from the way a true faithful believer would live. And I think many people match their principles and ideals with how they are living instead of how they can be living.

As a theist first thing, I can't really understand how all of this exists without an ultimate mover. And it would have to be a mover outside of our "rules." The universe is expanding. Most scientists agree. Expanding into what? Nothingness? Obviously, the way I was raised planted certain things in my mind, but I just don't see a better explanation for the universe than God.
