I still have glass in my forehead that little shards still work their way out from time to time from hitting to glass with no seatbelt but thankfully not going all the way through.

Somehow I managed to get out of the vehicle before passing out thankfully because the truck caught flames. I don't remember any of it after the intial flying towards the windshield.

Depends are you insured? If so why should insurance pay for injuries that could have been prevented with a seatbelt? If you aren't why should taxpayers pay for your medical bills?

There is no valid argument against wearing your seatbelt and this comes from a guy that could've been cut in half IF I was wearing one in my bad wreck.

Tort is the problem.

Government overreach? Possibly and probably but if any attorney can and will bring forth a suit against whomever, vehicle manufacturer, municipality, state, other driver, some swinging dick who makes a comment on a message board about how it shouldn't be a law , than it needs to be a mandatory law.

Now you take away the liability of others for anyone not wearing a seatbelt to litigate and hold others responsible - then be my guest and not wear it. fricking ride on the hood for all I care. But when that tempered glass meets your melon and you end up spending the rest of your cucumber life hiding your own Easter eggs you better have parked enough cash away to feed you through a tube. Because I'll buy you one McDonalds milkshake and then pull the plug and bid you good riddance.

And a hot tip-spend a few moments on the Food board and you will realize just how often the McDonalds milkshake machine are off line. Just might make you buckle up.

Terrible argument. While tragic, it's their call to not wear a seatbelt.

I wasn't arguing. I simply expressed that a tragedy that affected my life changed my outlook on the subject. If that tragedy happen to OP, he might change the way he feels. There's nothing wrong with learning through other's experiences and pain.

I am opposed to seat belt and helmet laws for adults.

Freedom loving conservatives on TD think it is great for the government to tell you to buckle up.

I had a pretty major accident April 3rd. Dozed off and straightened a curve out, hit a culvert and end over ended. I normally wear my seatbelt, and had put it on when I left the house. Due to something falling in the passenger side floorboard and rolling around, I took it off so I could reach over and get it. When I hit the culvert, it sent me straight forward, pinned my legs between the dash and the floorboard. My butt was against the front of the seat and I couldnt free myself(left arm was pinned between dash and door) couldnt reach my seat controls. There is absolutely no way to prove it, but I feel like if Id had my seatbest on, I would be dead right now due to the roof being smashed down and breaking my next when I landed on the lid.
Here is the picture of the truck, you be the judge

Sounds to me like you were negligent in that you were digging around for something that hit the passenger floorboard. Hope no one else was injured from your stupidity and your attorney tells you you have no case.

But I thinks that's not likely. Culvert manufacturer will be included under that umbrella of liability along with a few others.

Glad you made it Baw

My truck was a bit lighter and a bit more fricked up but no need for a pissing contest. Pretty smiles story.

Broken: tail bone, left ankle, right knee, right elbow was my only major damages. Would have easily died had I had a seat belt one and been pinned to the one spot I'm sure.

I feel it sucks insurance has to cover idiots that are injured for simply not wearing their seat-belt, or worse, families have to suffer when their loved on is ejected and killed in a crash they would have otherwise survived.

The roof isn't caved in at all. shite, the windshield isn't even broken. You likely would've walked away with a seatbelt on.

Sadly enough, a young lady died in a wreck last night that someone wearing a seatbelt would've walked away from. LINK

Shouldn't be a law. However if u get a ticket for not wearing one you insurance rates should go up. I wasn't required to wear one for the first 7 years I drove and to be honest didn't most of the time. Don't wear it now if I am going somewhere close to the house and won't get over 35.
Stupid I know

This.

I wear mine religiously. It has nothing to do with if it's against the law or not. It's the smart thing to do.
