How do i start forging my own knives, swords, throwing axes, etc

I started a thread a few weeks ago on the OB about buying a smelting furnace to start playing with metals. I just want to cast stuff here and there but I too would like to forge some blades. I love watching guys on Youtube make cool stuff.

LINK this is a good video of how to make a propane forge. I use both a propane and coal forge. A coal forge can be made with some quickcrete and a nice hole in the ground. Harbor Freight has a pretty decent anvil for $50 that works well for knives. For axe heads and swords, you will need to dish out the cash for a big anvil. Also Harbor Freight has nice 5lbs hammers for cheap, plus cowhide gloves, aprons. Buy a cheap mig welder so you can weld rebar to your raw metal to have a handle to get out of your forge. Pick up a bench grinder, a belt sander, and angle grinder and you'll be making kitchen knives for days

You'll need 1095 high carbon steel or any high carbon steel to make strong edge blades. Leaf springs work pretty well and great to practice with. Home Depot and lowes both have flat iron that's relatively cheap to practice with. The steel won't make a strong blade, but will definitely allow you too get used to everything

I just watched alot of forged in fire and decided to pick up the hobby a few years ago and with the quarantine have been forging everyday

Watch the Alec Steele channel on YouTube. They did a couple of videos in the last few weeks about forging a knife with $100 in tools.
