First, you tell him that he’s a…
Then you tell him that if he wears the sliding pad that.....
Just remember, you’ll never go wrong as long as you take parenting advice from Red Foreman!

The look good play good argument is BS.
You practice hard, you play good.
You can buy and wear and use all the bets looking stuff you want to buy if you don’t put in the work, you ain’t playing good!

Soft parents make soft kids. Pathetic.

Prepare him for the real world, people are going to make him upset the rest of his life. He needs to learn it now or learn the hard way later

Yeah we deal with that too. I remember when a Copperhead bat was $30.
These sliding gloves aren't near that expensive. You can get a kids one for around $75 that will last a couple of seasons unless their team color is different next year. Luckily these travel ball teams keep their team colors for multiple seasons (usually), except for like the pink alternate uniforms we wear to mothers day tournaments. In that case his glove and cleat colors will just have to clash for the weekend. I'm not about to buy pink cleats.

But more importantly, sliding isn't allowed for the league that he's in, so he's just wearing it to wear it.
Do you mean head first sliding? I’ve never heard of a no-sliding league. And there is no way in hell I would buy one of those for my kid even if head first sliding were allowed. If he wants to spend his own money on it, he can feel free to look like a goofball.

Needing advice on telling your nine year old "no" is sad.

He's doing this for looks with no purpose?
Yep, time to have a father son talk about the basics of masculinity

I cheered when Santa didn't show up the the promised visit at their daycare over Christmas when all the other parents were upset. Kids need the rug pulled out from under them occasionally and to flounder in their feelings and not have mom and dad all in a tizzy.
Life's hard. You going to get bruises, your going to lose shite, you will be told NO more than Yes. You will be uncomfortable. Learn to handle it and protect your own well being.
