How do I approach the topic of sliding pads with my son?

Need some advice.
My son (9) is playing baseball this year, and he is adamant about wearing a sliding pad when he gets on base. I've never been a fan of them, because it's kind of wimpy, honestly. But more importantly, sliding isn't allowed for the league that he's in, so he's just wearing it to wear it.
Should I have the conversation with him about not wearing it? I know the whole "if you look good, you play good" argument, and he sees the college teams wearing them, but I think at this age it's just not a good look. Do you think it could be good for him to get used to running in it for when he gets older? I don't want to mess him up or make him upset.

Tell him No and it’s over
This ain’t a business deal. You aren’t negotiating the Treaty of Versailles

I’ll wait for the travel ball dad to answer before making a judgment.

Show me a couple or 3 Pete Rose slides and we can have the conversation. YW

first step is to find a new league. stealing may not be allowed but that shouldn't mean sliding isn't allowed.

It’s youth baseball. Let him play how he wants to play. It’s his team and his game.

We may have different parenting styles.

Sorry, I meant "sliding head first" isn't allowed, for clarification.

Most leagues don’t allow sliding head first unless it is back to a base until after 12u

Quit being a pussy and be a parent. frick his feelings. He needs guidance at this age, not some panty waste adult coddling his every whim.

Is this how parents of 9 year olds justify the purchase of $350 bats and $200 gloves.

so suddenly, there is a need for a sliding mitt.

Prolly best if he trades baseball for soccer.

You need the internet to help you form an argument with your 9 year old?
Honestly, this is pathetic
