Went to meet some friends at a bar last weekend and there was an older couple with them. I chatted with them for a few minutes and find out the guy is a big wig at big international company. He proceeds to ask if I want a job and then gives me his business card. The pay would more than double my current salary...

Got me wondering how do people usually fall into their jobs? Know a guy? Just apply online? Cold call?

I walked into a sawmill and asked if I could buy some lumber from them. Told them I was exporting it. I bought, they sold. And the relationship grew from there. They eventually asked me to come on as a partner.

Out of 4 different jobs, 3 of them was because I knew someone. And now that I think about it, the other one that I didn't know anyone, I was asked if I could go in for an interview in 30 mins.

Didn't have time to go back home to change so I went in with blue jeans, with either a collared shirt or a tshirt on so in all 4 of those jobs it was very casual.

When I am in a suit in tie I am not relaxed. Anyway.. Yeah, I mean you really take advantage of anything you can.

They saw my resume on indeed and contacted me. Did a few phone interviews and one via Skype and that was it.

Current job? Pure nepotism and wish I would’ve taken the opportunity years ago, but I wanted to make my own money. The first company I worked for out of college I was denied internships for 3 years. So, I kept getting more experience and applying until I earned the opportunity. My second job I walked in the office and asked if they had an open position for the role I wanted.

Retired now buy at the time I interviewed with a telecommunications company. While being walked around the place I saw an uncle of mine at a desk. I waved, he came over and chatted a bit with the interviewer and I and 3 days later I got a job offer in the mail. My uncle’s assistance and my fine GPA/Physics degree combined to get the job I believe.

Friend. There was a position that would be opening for someone who was retiring. Wasn't posted or officially listed.

Got to the final interview and it was down to me and someone else. They went with the other person but it was a job I really wanted so I kept an eye on it. After two years the person they went with didn’t work out so I immediately reached out to the manger before the job was posted.

Previous job was almost exactly the same, but at a restaurant bar and I don't believe he was there with his wife.

Current job was pure luck. Right time, right place, even had a resume that I had just updated on my phone to send over on the spot.
