My house has been painted for 5+ years and we have zero issue with the paint peeling.

Honestly that whole kitchen is depressing. The fixtures look high quality, but I hate the whole look.

Its the best trend to come through housing in a while. Hope it lasts - looks so much better than red brick or brown cabinets

It's clean. I personally feel like it's pretty timeless.

Disagree. Stucco looks like shite, I actually made that comment to my wife yesterday as we were walking around my neighborhood

Agreed, I don't understand the appeal of painting over brick and adding that reoccurring maintenance/expense.

Stained cabinets would be great, but luan cabinets with poplar door frames aren’t exactly great for staining. Painted cabinets are just cheaper, and I think that if you’re going to paint them, then white is better than most alternatives, at least for the bulk of your cabinets. Then you go dark with the island, because kids will be kicking it.

Tldr I’m too poor for nice stained cabinets.

My wife likes the little bit of stucco on our house. I am going to cover it with Hardy soon despite what she likes. I hate it.

These flippers are all buying 60s-70s houses, painting the exterior brick white and doing the "upgrades" you described.

That makes sense. The new houses in my neighborhood all having white painted brick doesn't.

It probably holds up better than wood siding, but you are right that you will have to paint it occasionally to keep up the appearance. Where an unfinished brick can just be left alone with occasional pressure washing.

Much better than cookie cutter subdivision stucco and brick houses. Cringe when I see them.

I think it's clean and get the appeal. Just did it on two houses we remodeled actually but I think it will date a home pretty badly compared to just leaving regular bricks. That is unless you have the ugly orange or yellow brick from the 70s.

It will always look better than it's counterpart from 50 years earlier:

FWIW every brick manufacturer recommends against pressure washing brick. Anything with more pressure than a regular garden hose has potential to blow the face of the brick off and then you are left with the base color

As for the painting, most paint it because they can use the cheapest brick sold but in the long run it just adds more maintenance and costs when you have to repaint it every 7-10 years.

I don't have a problem with that kitchen. The exterior white and black is too much for me though.

I am going to remove but you can cover it using furring strips. Most stucco on residential houses isn't real stucco. It's a bastardized version of stucco so there is usually OSB behind it you can nail to.

I am building a home and that kitchen is close to what we’re doing. Our island will be more of a dark blue-green and the hardware is nickel not gold. We are planning on pendant lights over the island and that’s the part I think may be out of style soon if it’s not already. I think it looks good without them. My wife insists on the pendants though.

Exterior, I don’t think that black and white design will ever look bad. We opted for light grey siding, grayish blue stone knee wall, black shutters, white trim.

Yeah.

Unlike the 60 year old kitchen, you will at least have space (without knocking down a wall) once you rip out all of the ugly features.

That looks exactly like our kitchen back in the 70’s when I was a kid. That brings back some good memories.
