Have family in town with little kids. Kids left stocking full of candy on floor. My little terrier dog ate at least 5 butter cups and a couple of Lindt truffles.

Not sure if I should panic or leave him be.

I think it's usually dark chocolate that can kill them. If you're that paranoid, you can give him a capfull of peroxide and he will yak up everything.

Not a vet*

If in doubt, just give the dog a spoonful or two of peroxide

It should be ok. Just keep an eye on him. That’s more sugar and diarreah inducing than anything.

How big? Should be fine. Just watch him and if anything unusual happens take him to the vet.

My lab ate a whole sleeve of Oreos Christmas Eve and was fine. She has an iron stomach though.

Get Liquid charcoal from healthfood store and squirt it down hit throat. Sprouts has it on the shelf.

Same thing the ER vet would use.

My dobie once ate a bowl of Hershey kisses. He survived after shitting out all the aluminum foil the next day.

Yes. The darker the worse. But milk chocolate seems like it's not a bad.
I've made him throw up by pouring peroxide in his throat. Online didn't really say what else to do. These is no chocolate antidote.

Chocolate is supposed to be like poison for dogs. I will say though, that my boxer once ate an entire bag of fun sized Snickers, and other than shitting out the wrappers the next day, she had no ill effects. Little shite lived for another 10 years after that.

What’s he weigh? Did he eat the wrappers and everything?

I’d be more concerned about him eating the wrappers than the candy. Odds are that he’ll just have the shits

My Lab mix, RIP, ate an entire chocolate Bundt cake. He didn’t puke nor get lethargic. He followed that the next day and ate an entire Popeye’s spicy 8 piece, bones and all, and the biscuit. The Popeye’s spicy did make him beg to go outside most of the day though.

A UPS driver did him in when our dog sped through his electronic barrier to chase the truck. He lived for chasing bicycles, skateboards, trucks and school buses. And he died for it too.

My daschund ate an entire Halloween size bag of Reeces out of my son’s backpack and nothing happened. Weenie dogs are indestructible assholes though. He also fished a box of Popeye’s chicken bones. I stared at his shite for a week looking for blood with negative results. He made it 17 years and died peacefully. He was a loveable dick and did what he wanted to.

He should be fine. Dark chocolate is more dangerous for them than milk chocolate

Chocolate contains theobromine, which causes heart arrhythmias in dogs. As others have said, darker is more toxic. Bakers chocolate is the worst. Practically any amount of it is dangerous. A dog would have to eat quite a lot of milk chocolate relative to its bodyweight to have any effect. Your dog will probably be fine.
