The answer is that our country should be called the United States of Generica. So many people in this country are OK with mediocre and generic.
In marketing class years ago we learned that people are like this for two reasons. 1). They know what they are getting, quality and taste regardless of location. . 2). They want association for the sake of normalcy
So people eat at chains because they know what they are getting, people buy certain clothing labels for association and known quality, fit.
I think the polo shirt is a great example. Everyone wants to blend in and feel normal.

I don't mind most of those places. At least you know what you are going to get. It's not great, but they have something for everyone and you know it is going to be fairly consistent across the entire country.

I confess I haven’t eaten there a ton, but I had no problem with ocharleys food the couple times I went. For sure better than chili’s or Applebee’s.

There's a large segment of society that for better or worse, just don't know any better. Whether they live in rural areas with limited options, are poor, or just not adventurous with their culinary choices, chain restaurants provide them a consistent product that they think is fine dining.
Nothing wrong with that.
Nothing wrong with that.

You come up with that all on your own?

I’m very proud that Applebees went out of business in Oxford. No need for that trashy establishment.

O'Charley's, Applebee's, TGI Friday's, Ruby Tuesday's, Chili's,
Chili's I believe is the only chain of this list still open in and around Baton Rouge.. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
Chili's isn't terrible in a pinch for food.

Interesting I guess history is repeating itself but in the opposite direction

How is Outback still open? All because they fry a whole onion and serve it with terrible sauce?

I enjoy Applebees and ocharley's. Where do special people like you eat?

I like O'Charley's...was pissed to be visiting Lafayette and see that one closed

My friends and I like to go watch football there. It's a nice change of pace from the uptown crowd, it's cheaper and it's way better service too. We go as a tongue and cheek thing but it's still fun.

Suprised no one has bought the rights and started a new Burger Chef franchise yet

Because every now and then I like to treat the old lady with a nice fancy meal at Ruby Tuesday's.

Food went down in quality a long time ago and they increased all pricing with reduced serving size. That sounds like a solid plan to keep people turning into your restaurant in America.

Had this at Reagan in DC, except it was like a huge, clover-shaped bar.

Any time I pass by one of these places they're always completely empty. Are baby boomers keeping them open?
No but Chulta is. The same goes for Red Lobster too.
